has Headshop fixed the eyelash problem?

Abalone blamed it on Daz ... so if it works now... who fixed it?
Did daz fix something in their interface
or did abalone fixed the way their program works?
---
And if this works and the last version doesn't then one or the other owes me a working version

  • tippy toeing in ... clearing throat ... I doubt it.

Before running any of the Headshop products, remove the eyelashes. Make the beautiful head morph. Then over on the Paramters Tab as you're polishing the morph, be sure to put a check in the box for auto-follow. Then load a fresh set of lovely eyelashes and they should land where they should be on the figure. {zero the morph before saving it}.

  • I know there were work arounds ... but I didn't buy a product to do that...
If it still has issues ... daz should not be selling it.
And I remain too busy to have enough of time to do yelling and screaming at sales..  don't want to return it... It's given me some nice stuff for g3 but want it to work the way it should.

I wouldn't call that a work around as it the same thing you would have to do for any other morph you make.

  • I also discovered the other day that if the figure being morphed is dressed, not only do the eyelashes disappear but so did all the clothes! And I couldn't get them to reappear. Had to delete them from the scene and load fresh clothing [and eyelashes]. HS14

Use Dev version of the figure.

  • Good idea.

  • anyway, a side question, anyone has upgraded or purchased headshop 14? i would like to see some renders of the faces

  • I appreciate the feedback... but please note it's not a morph I make.
I purchased a program to create the morph for me.
If it is simply removing the eyelashes etc before creating the morph
then the vendor should simply have displayed a screen that says
"You are preparing to create a morph using gen8
for this to work properly you need to do this"
    ---
In my youth I coded a program to process credit cards for JC Pennys
do you think they been impressed if I said " oh, cards that start with 4 won't work you need to manually change it to X before processing?"
But I'll take the money for the program anyway.

Well alan bard newcomer you are more than welcome to contact this vendor and discuss the matter with him. He does provide support.

The plugin does make the morph. No plugin [yet] both makes and saves a morph. In the saving process one normally "polishes" the morph dial so it will work as desired. For example one might set the minimum value to "0" - change the colours of the dial, things like that. And while there, make sure the auto-follow is checked.

    Really?  Okay ...

    Here's the little journey: {in HS14 I also added about 1/2 of one of the nose morphs} Final draft renders: used one of the Easy Portrait lighting presets, eyebrows from some character, Commander Hair, eye textures from 8.1's eye material product. {I delete the tear, it's annoying} {obviously replaced the skin - used a merchant resource}

  • I've been pleased with the results... except for this issue with gen8
these were done with gen3 and I've been happy with them.
First render has inserts with the originals
And in general usage ... it is true that outside of extremely close portrait shots ... who's going to see eye lashes anyway?

  • Catherine, obviously the green tint is a problem. Two ways to resolve: 1. Use different photo or 2. Use Photoshop to slightly change hues.

The green isn't the issue .. I get a falloff on the skin tones.. so I just use a skinbuilder to supply a complete skin
But the question is if I buy yet another version of this will it make the eyelashes work or come with a warning about what to do to make them work?
considering the first pic was washed out and the second was a b&w original.

Alan, since eyelashes are a separate "figure", it makes it for use hard to address it directly. As Catherine explained, that after your finished with HeadShop, you erease the original eyelashes, reload a new Gen figure, erease everything but the new eye;ashes and then make the new eyelashes parented to the original figure. I'd like to repeat that this is a problem caused by Gen 8 having eyelashes as a separate figure.

okay.. so it continues to be a "feature" ... I can live with that
But along with the various popup during runing the program it would have been nice ...
no more than nice.. almost a requirement, since you knew there would be issues
to have it laid out right on the line when we run the program.
    ---
That way I know what to do ... and can say "okay because of X I have to do Y" as opposed to finishing a figure and going "why the hell is wrong here".

  • It was actually never clear to me where the Auto Follow box was that needed to be checked, thanks Catherine. That works well. I don't mind that workaround. The other thing I've been seeing with HS is that the top of the head is not natural. It comes from HS looking too flat on top. I've been using HS13. Is that fixed in HS14? Lately, I've also been seeing the noses come out rather distorted, even with a pretty decent straight-on photo. Anybody else seen that?

    You're welcome.

Well I have noticed not all the morphs work as desired/expected. However most of them worked quite nicely if one takes the time to make proper morphs from them in the usual fashion [not through HeadShop]. As I recall there were one or two that require a little TLC clean up - I used the method of removing vertices from the morphs via the Favorite options.

One big difference with HS14 is that we can add in more morph options on the Sculpt Tab. For example the extra morph sets that were recently released in the store.

There is a forehead dome morph ... I'm illustrating its use outside of HS14. Yes, I actually sat down one day and turned a whole bunch of those options into individual morphs.

How I tend to start off morphing projects:

    {that is any character for the same base figure of course}

  • Thanks again, Catherine. I have been setting the dome height higher than the default, but some just don't work well. I'm not sure if this tool has a cache somewhere that needs to be cleaned out periodically. I was seeing some really wierd 'shark nose' effects on noses. Noses drive me nutses...

  • Might want to keep an eye on the texture folder: C:\Users\Public\Documents\My DAZ 3D Library\Runtime\FaceShop\fs\SmoothedModelTextures

n.b. new textures will overwrite the older ones if they have the same name {which they have to have in order to work} so tuck keepers into their own folders ;-)

  • I reinstalled HS13, rebooted a couple of times, and it seems to work now. It was doing some wierd things. I was fiddling around so much, I missed the sale on HS14. There's always another sale...

  • It's on sale right now.
