Baggy Eyes?

I'd like to give some of my older characters bags-under-the-eyes, dark circles, wrinkles  -- that kind of thing.  I assume there's probably several utilities that can achieve that effect in DAZ Studio.  Can anyone list some of their favorites?

    There's always Zev0's aging morphs.

Agreed, the aging morphs are a very good tool when you need eye bags and other stuff. :-)

There's also going to be a different color and texture for the bagginess, so are there any good resources for that?

  • There are a few really good skins out there for the older generation.  Agnes is great for V4, Bellatrix for Genesis 2 Female, Uncle Albert Stefan are great for M4.  I haven't used it, but it is on my wishlist, Svengar for Gianni 6.  You can also get Zevos Skin Overlay Merchant Resource Bundle which has both the product for v4/m4 and gen2 models or get them separate if you are only using one generation or the other.  It is great for adding blemishes and spots, shadows for eyes and a whole slew of other aging skin maladies.

Thanks!  It never dawned on me to check out skins from individual characters.  Phoenix1966 in particular has a number of great character skins to choose from.

Be aware that the characters that include those textures frequently (usually) have custom sculpts to display those features to their best advantage. They can sometimes fight with Aging Morphs, which can put wrinkles and bags in slightly different places than the textures do.

  • For the best results, then, I would need to rely on one of those custom sculpts as my base, then dial in morphs to create my own, original character?

This is one of the things I love about the skins I mentioned previously.  They don't seem to rely on the morphs that ship with the character.  I have not had a problem making any aging morphs look good with those skins for the older characters.  Bellatrix, in particular, has never looked bad no matter what aging morphs I have thrown at it.  Her skins don't seem to rely on the morphs to look good. Her skin is awesome and additional morphs only make her look better. I like that I can make several different looking characters using the same skin and they each look great.

While I haven't found one that relies heavily on th morphs to look good, one way to combat this problem, if you find it, would be to start with the morphs that come with the character (you have them if you have the skin anyway) and then make any morphing adjustments you want with that as your starting point for different looking characters.  I haven't gotten to the point where I create my own morphs so all of the morphs I use are the standard ones plus Zevos aging morphs.  Wait for them to come on sale as they are definitely worth getting.

I have just started playing around with Zevos merchant resource overlays for making my own older skins, for a little more variety, for a diner scene that I'm working on requiring a lot of older people.  It looks good so far.  There just aren't enough skins out there for the older generation.  I guess they don't sell as well.  If I manage to make some good skins, I'll be putting them in the Freebie section for others to try out.  We'll see how it goes.  Whatever I come up with will have to look good with and without morphs because I don't have any aging morphs that are also a merchant resource.  At least, I don't think Zevos morphs are merchant resources.  They aren't listed as such.  I don't sculpt my own morphs yet.

I went to wishlist Bellatrix... ah, she's already on there. :)

ForbiddenWhispers is still on sale now at a good price if you can get it below the 40%.  It is a good investment if you like doing renders with more than just the teeny boppers floating around here.  LOL

Here's a quick (and ugly) test of Svengar for Gianni 6 on Michael 6 (without setting the required Gianni UV's).

That's rough, but you can take it further if you want to.

It does take at least SubDiv level 3 on Genesis to get those lines though, so hardware limitations could spoil things.

    Cheers!

    Alas, budget is thin again.

But I have Zev0's aging morphs and skin overlay (which lets me add age spots and wrinkles).

Well, there you go then.  You should play around with it.  From what I've seen, they look good.  I'm impressed with what I have managed to get with them so far.  The real test will be when I get them on the models and under the lights, though.  Studio lights on skin for old people is even tougher than black skin to render.  They really need soft lighting which doesn't seem to neccessarily make for a good render.

The skin looks good, other than the slight lines at the jaw line and neck, but that might be fixed with the proper UVs setup.  I definitely have to get him at some point in the future.

  • this is an interestin thread.

I hope i'm note to much a thread digger here.
But I want to add some eyebags and different detaild o my female characters to to make them more realistic for a world with maneating creatures and not enough time to sleep. to look for old age morphs?

never came in mand of that.  but this is that i like about this daz studio.  it is like the biggest char cutimazisation i ever had.  and i bought some games just for the char creation -.-

and i don't know why  but inperfect skin looks in some ways much better and more realistic on some nearly perfect character morphs. are there some examples of young women / teens with old skin textures to see the results?
