Years ago I got a japanese proverb on my arm and the sushi chef at a place I used to go to gave me a hard time every time i went in that it didn;'t mean what I thought it should. he finally admitted he was just giving me a hard time, LOL.
Saw a greeting card of a woman with a tattoo on the back of her neck. On the outside the card said, "She thinks it says Peace, Serenity, Strength"
On the inside the card said, "It says Salty Beef Noodles"

While at this - what would the number 1207 (MCCVII) signify anyway?
And another is XXIX VII MCCXCIX - 29 7 1299 ? I guess they meant MCMXCIX - that would be 1999 (just a bit underage to get tattoo if it's a birthdate).
From Wikipedia, "Year 1207 (MCCVII) was a common year starting on Monday of the Julian calendar.
Greetings,
Presumably she's a vampire, and that's when she was either 'born', or 'died'/'reborn'.
Either that or she's REALLY a fan of the town of Leeds.
...or maybe her month and day of birth? Is it like Tarot, where when the tattoo is reversed it means some kind of hidden information, or an opposition to what it usually means?

What is the point of this thread?
They are being flipped because they are being mirrored. Drop them in another location than the original and BAM they flip..that's how things work. To move them...like from the right side to the left, they will need to be manually flipped/adjusted.
Bad promo images of tattoos are like bad tattoos on people in real life.

Denny,
1) Have you put in a ticket? It may not be seen by the needed parties if only posted in the forums.
2) Not sure what is wrong with the Hardcore M4 product.
Nope. The theory with month and day of birth wouldn't work :-) You can't split MCCVII into 12/7 - it'll still be 1200 / 7. I wouldn't even try to ask what the Arabic tattoo means.
And to @mjc1016. These are not just files with tattoo images, these are "duble click" solutions, which automatically apply layers to Base and Translucency maps in L.I.E. Of course, one than can go into Layerd Image Editor, and flip or move layers as they wish, but the set should be correct from the get go, IMHO.
Still, it is useful, as one can edit the tattoo images in Photoshop and be sure in more or less correct placement. On the other hand, I am rather disappointed that the black is way too black to be realistic, but that can be taken care of as well.
Characters are upside down on the back of the jacket
LOL....and this is why I never render an image with writing or symbols I can not interpret myself. :)
No, I have not. In the old forum, someone mentioned sending in a ticket and getting a response that "these are just meant to be design elements. They're not really meant to say anything so it doesn't matter."
Unfortunately, if you use a real language for your design element, it does say something. Even if it's just Salty Beef Noodles.

noticed it to late
on the other side its ok
Thanks.
Yes, I often thought about how to change it. I love the RHS Stage Coach; it is such a fine prop, and with the help of Chohole's wonderful textures (http://chohole.ovbi.org/page_13.htm) you can make a lot of other coaches out of the original model.
And I often thought about what all the Chinese or Japanese signs on our clothes really mean. If I were an Asian fashion designer working for a western company I don't know if I could resist the temptation to place some funny expressions on T-shirts or pants... Like 'Salty Beef Noodles', or worse... ;-)
That's why my Japanese tattoo was taken from the dictionary, not from a photo at tattoo parlor :D
I remember a story once about a Chinese who stumbles into a clotings shop in Paris and begins to laugh really hard.
Turns out they were selling tops with Chinese characters on, and the message printed was "I have only one ball".
That reminds me of something that happened to one of the big supermarkets here (Tesco) a couple of years back after they decided that their Italian meatball products would look more enticing with Italian wording printed on the boxes. It took their Italian customers to point out that that they'd been claiming to sell 'The B****cks of Grandad' and 'Donkey Balls'. I suppose it's not too dissimilar to the Welsh road sign that reputedly said 'I am out of the office...' because no one realised they were reading the translator's automated e-mail, sent when she was unavailable.
I won't render language or symbols if I have no idea what it means either. If a set is full of it (like a recent-ish Asian city) then I won't bother at all, and if it's just something small (I think there's a symbol above the arch in the Marrakesh set) then I will take it out during postwork. I don't mind being the unintentional cause of hilarity somewhere, what bothers me really is the possibility of unwittingly offending people. If I am going to offend then I at least want to know I'm doing it!
@caravelle
thanks for the link
Heck, I'm enough of a logophile that I'd be sore tempted to throw in loopy phrases on purpose, with traslations in the margins of the texture map, or in the readme. What's the Irish for "If you'd like to make a call, please hang up and dial again. If you need help, hang up, and then dial the operator"?
According to Google Translate, it's "Dá mba mhaith leat a dhéanamh le glao, le do thoil hang suas agus a dhiailiú arís. Má tá cabhair uait, hang suas, agus ansin dhiailiú an t-oibreoir." A bit long for a tattoo, but it might work...
How well d' y'all think a "No Regerts" tattoo set would sell in the store? Just a stack of goofy, too-plausible ink errors that might be seen any day of the week at Wally-World or the local shops...
I'll guess it tanks out in the store, but gets lots of downloads at SCG.
If anyone else has x2000's restaraunt set, take a moment to read the buttons on the cash register...

You may have to zoom in, if you're reading them in DS or Poser, but I think you'll enjoy them.
Greetings,
That's a golden opportunity for a relatively cheap item to be released on April 1st. If you start now, you just might get it through QA and everything in time!

Hmmm. That'd be an easy iray decal to make. I wonder how many people would download it as a freebie...
I would create tatoo layers directly on the texture in Photoshop. The readymade Tattoos i saw all look too black-ish. More like a temporary body paint.
Forst the black never is a real black.
First, the dye of a rl tattoo reacts to the skin in RL and looks a bit cyan-ish like in reflection. Same effect like black color of a permanent marker looks a bit lilac-ish.
Second, a RL tatoo is a bit reliefed since its kind of a scar and makes the skin bloom a bit.
Third, the edges are not sharp. The dye floats / sinks a bit into the skin. On fresh tattos the sourrounding skin looks a bit reddish and glossy. This creates a great real looking effect when done well.
Its great to look at tatoos on Google and study the look of fresh made, healed and old tatoos. They differ a lot in aging.
A tatoo on a young girl looks totally different than one on an old pirate :-D
Okay, I actually found a simple "No Regerts" tattoo at https://sites.google.com/site/crblackthorne/downloads, but it's just the simple overlay textures and the files to apply 'em to G2M/G2F. Hmmmn...
