1950s architecture

My gaming group is goign to be starting up a 1950s era super heroes campaign, so I am looking for 1950s era architecture. I know about the 40's Bus Station  and Moonshine's diner/theatre (and the carnival stuff from the 1930s could still work). And Northwell Horse Stables with the brick texture,  Stonemason's Stonemasons Urban Bundle #1 (The Backstreets and City Court) and Muze's Rubble in the Bronx: Alleyway seem like good enough fits. That still leaves a lot to be desired, such as some sotre fronts, government buildings, etc. Any suggestions?

  • Go for anything from the early 20th c.  For that matter, my old HS was in an (already decrepit) school building from the last years of the 19th c., and was only slated for demolition just this year-- seventeen years after we moved campuses, and fifteen after I graduated.

That's a good point. I should probably take a closer look at DreamLands models at RMP. Anyone have experience using them in DAZ Studio?

I was looking in one in particular that I use and didn't see it, then noticed "hide items I own" is not part of the store interface.
I turned it off and found "the neighbors yard" works great in DS with 3Delight and Lux, but not tried in Iray.

Thanks!! Ubiquitous Rooftops and Ladders might work as well (at least one of our characters will be able to fly). Good tip!!

1950's Motel is a very good set

Last Chance Gas Station is more like a 1930's building but would still be around in the 50's.

I should probably be clearer that I am looking for an urban setting. Basically, something more like Gotham and Metropolis. It will have a bay area, so warehouses/docks, etc. are all legit.

  • I would suggest Gothic City, which has a pretty neat noir vibe about it. It could pass for late 40's/early 50s.

Stonemason has some excellent urban sets at varying pricepoints. If you're willing to do some retexturing work to remove things like grafitti, Derelict Corners might be what you're looking for as a back alley.

I've got several of his products - they work very well in Studio.  And they're excellent for a 1950's feel.

Thanks everyone, I picked a bunch of these up (and then filed for chapter 11 ;)

  • You want sets by Dreamland over at Renderosity. He even has 50's cars to fill his cities. They are a bit pricey, but they are huge sets.

Yeah, I actually went through all of them, taking notes and picked a very small number out, ones that I felt offered a lot of versatility. I had a coupon to help save money. I also already had Coleman's crates and City Block 10 from a few years back. He really needs better descriptions!

Anyone know if posting my notes/descriptionsof his products violates the TOS here?

I've used Dreamland Model sets. Outstanding. I find they render in IRay without much tweaking, and (IMO) are comparable to Stonemason sets in attention to detail and quality of textures.
