http://facegen.com/ (FaceGen Artist for $69 or $139 depending on use criteria) has a product you can buy that works for DAZ. There is also I think FaceShop it's called in the DAZ Store. With the number of pictures of Helen Hunt you shouldn't have too hard a time finding ones good enough to generate a reasonable likeness.

You mean headshop? That doesn't work.

LOL, if it's that broken plugin I bought with the Mona Lisa and never used, yes. You have me curious now to try again so I am downloading the FaceGen Artist demo.

OK, it's actually FaceGen standalone demo not a DAZ Studio plugin demo but they do have a DAZ Studio product.

It took less than 5 minutes to generate what looks to be an accurate 3D model from an photo ID. With the texture on it's no doubt who it is but if I turn off the ID texture though I looks pretty good to me except that maybe parts of the face are too smoothed out...but checking the actual real face here and now the shape is correct and there. The FaceGen product is definately much improved from last time I tried it. The only problem you'll have is skull shape which can be very, very different but most people's hair obscures that.

So I say try the demo and go for it.

OK, I was wrong it does export a morph DSF file but for Genesis One it's meant. It was very easy to do took me 5 minutes. And, OMG, I look like Annie Lennox. surprise

What age do you need her at, and do you have access to either Stephanie 4 or Morphia?  I might be able to put together a dialspun version, but you'd be on your own for the skin.

I do have Stephanie 4, but don't know what Morphia is. Age ... 30ish?

  • OdaaOdaa Posts: 1,548

    Morphia is this: http://www.daz3d.com/morphia

She is a pain in the backside because you have to initialize her, load her as a character, inject V4 Morphs++, Aiko 4, Stephanie 4, etc into her.  But for subtle, quirky facial changes (the cartoonish effects you see in the promos are the result of spinning the dials above 20%-30%) she is very useful.

I think Ms. Hunt might be achievable with Morphs++ and Stephanie, but we'll see when I get home and can play. ;)

I remember seeing that, before. It looked cool, but I couldn't think of when I'd use/need it.

Here is a bit list also but no Helen Hunt there:

If Odaa can't do this I will be buying that FaceGen soon and will make the Helen Hunt morph but also no textures. I will have to figure out how to get the face morph from Genesis 1 to V4 but it will be a good learning experiance. I understand there are tools even to automate that part of it too. Her face is pretty easlily recognizable.

    Thanks :D

That celebrity link is awesome. Many of my clients use celebrities to describe what they want their characters to look like, so using one to start from, then tweek from there, is very helpful.

Here's what I have so far, I might be able to get closer with some more tweaking, but this is all I can do tonight.

I will post the results on cg-trader if I don't have to pay to do so once I've done that morph and bump this thread.

Here's another attempt, I included pictures of her smiling just because that is how Ms. Hunt is usually photographed.  Mostly Morphs++ with some use of the Paige dial on Stephanie 4.  If you like it, WillowRaven, I will package it up and put it on my sharecg account and put a link here.  If not, I'll have to call it quits.

OK, I don't have much of a DAZ or Poser library of skin or hair to work with but I did get something similar to Odaa above. It is difficult to get a picture of someone looking straight on and with a neutral expression.

I used FaceGen Artist Pro, Genesis 2 Female, Alani Default Skin and Alana Eye 01 (those are part of the Callie 6 Pro Bundle), and Aldori Hair with it's correspomding blonde mat. I'm pretty sure I could go on the DAZ Store and search for the best matching skin and hair and get closer than this but I'll leave to to you.

Like Odaa, I also tried to put a smile on her face and although it was pretty good, it wasn't quite a Helen Hunt smile although I could have kept tweeking I suppose and come closer. I think for more exactness one needs more practice more than I do or to use old film footage to capture her way of expression more precisely.

Overall, I'm satisfied with the caricature given the short amount of time I spent on it. If you like over the next several days I can try a few more pictures to try and get a better likeness of her in FaceGen. Once you are satified I will transfer the Helen Hunt.dsf to a V4 morph if it doesn't involve me buying more DAZ products or too much work. I'd have to search on the forums for how to do that as I mostly use DAZ to convert the toon Poser models I've licensed to FBX files and not much else; although I've decided to try and learn more recently, like this learning how to use FaceGen effectively.

Oh, and I need to shop for modern female clothing that's more typical. I thought I have got some with the Callie bundle but I didn't.

She's looking great :D And I also don't want you to have to spend any money on it, either. Your time and expertise is already invaluable.

OK, so if that is OK then I can attach the (G2F) Helen Hunt.dsf file, and the Helen Hunt.duf file and you are set. If you don't have the products the duf tried to open to make the scene you can replace with other products. I also made a G1 Helen Hunt.dsf file that's the same morph but can't recreate the G2 Helen Hunt.duf exactly if you want a G1 Helen Hunt duf. So, unless you want the morph transferred to V4, in which case I'll look how to do that tomorrow.

  • WillowRavenWillowRaven Posts: 3,787

I'd prefer the one for v4, since I still prefer her over the genesis figures. But I think I have the base figure for G1 and G3.

  • nonesuch00nonesuch00 Posts: 18,444

OK then. I will search tomorrow and if somehow transfering this morph to V4 is free and can be done in a couple of hours I'll do that. Otherwise, you'll get as similar as above as I can manage to make with G1.

As far as G3 goes, from what I understand due to the added geometry in the lips there is no way to transfer morphs easily there yet but I'll look. That FaceGen Artist Pro product will eventually have a G3 option but no timetable by the developer for it's release.

I'll post back when I'm finished. Oh, and can I post the duf & dsf here without getting into trouble?

  • WillowRavenWillowRaven Posts: 3,787

That I don't know. Maybe a mod is watch this thread and can tell us.

  • nonesuch00nonesuch00 Posts: 18,444

OK then well until I post those files here, tschuess.

  • OdaaOdaa Posts: 1,548

Yeah, definitely, a lot of tweaking of facial expressions-to capture the squint, the closed-mouth smile, set the eyebrows at the proper angle-would be needed to perfect the likeness, but to my mind that's mostly up to the end user.

  • nonesuch00nonesuch00 Posts: 18,444

Thanks. What hair & outfit is that?

As far as transferring the V4 I'm going to try a tutorial on that I've found. It is in Poser 10 using something called a 'shrinkwrap' method to create a morph. It sould like it should work OK but how good will depend on if the have polygons that can be matched on. I don't think this shrink-wrapping will add polygons to the target figure to help the topologies match better but it should be able to match the existing ones good enough.

I have many plants that have arrived for spring and must be planted now so be patient please. I will post on CG-Trader like Odaa to avoid trouble.

For those of you that have interest in FaceGen Artist Pro, and I'm not affiliated, it can do export to Genesis, Genesis 2 Male, Genesis 2 Female and I was just told that the upgrade to Genesis 3 support will be free. That's the higher priced and not the same product as FaceGen Artist Home.

Dress is MFD (I have a scene file that has V4 with all the morphs loaded, wearing MFD for modesty, and when I want to "play" that's what I open up); hair is Eurydice: http://www.daz3d.com/eurydice-hair

Well, I didn't forget but so far on my tries to use the Poser 10 Pro Morph Brush to transfer I've been having big trouble around the eyes. As I am also busy with spring plantings so I'll go ahead and post the DSF file here. It is for Genesis 2. I'd recommend buying Facegen and then trying out diiferent photos yourself so you can decide which likenesses you like best. You can also use the demo before you buy with as many pictures as you like. It's easier to judge the accuracy in your eye yourself and it's made easier to judge that if you turn off the texture in FaceGen. Facegen can also randomize faces and let you create your own faces and choose ethnicities and such. It really is a great product.

If you are better with the Poser 10 Pro Morph brush than I am you shouldn't have a problem transferring the shape because I understand V4 has more polygons with which to transfers the G2F shape too. The other direction would be more difficult but possible as all the V4, M4, Freak 2 Genesis products prove.
