5000 series GPU - Iray?

Hi,

I just noticed that Iray does not work on 5000 series GPU and I just switched to 5080. Is there any news on if they plan to add support at all?

It cannot be supported by DS 4.x.x.x due to a change in the way nVidia compiles the renderer. 50x0 support will be in the next major version of Daz Studio, for which we do not have an ETA.

Are those responsible at Daz Studio aware of this significance? The problem will grow with the number of users with 50x0 cards. DS5 has been in development for three and a half years or more. I would doubt that the development team doesn't have a development plan internally and can't give us an approximate timeline.

Yes, they are aware - and they may well have a timetable, but if so it hasn't been sahred (now has any kind of feature list). I am certainly aware of the problem - a GPU upgrade was in my vague plans for this year, but the only non-8GB cards available from my usual store seemed to be the 12GB 3060 (which would be a minimal upgrade to my 11GB 2080Ti) and the 50x0 cards.

  • Thanks, at least it is confirmed it will be fixed at some point then? That is encouraging even if I have to wait a couple of months.

It cannot be "fixed" for DS 4.x.x.x. The next major version (DS 5 or whatever they call it) will have support for 50x0 cards, but we have no idea when it will be released (even as a Public Build/beta) - I would think that a couple of months may be optimisitc, but Daz can be very good at playing its cards close to its chest so anything is possible.

Thank you, Richard. Excellent feedback as usual.

So it's the best time to start putting some money into your bank account.
By the time DAZ will release 5.xxx, you'll have enough for getting a high end killer GPU.

I believe the system requirements at the daz help center should be updated since it's from 2017 now, possibly also adding the limitation with 5000 cards. While DAZ can keep its plans reserved, it is certainly an obligation to provide the users the up to date system requirements.

The 50's Nvidia series are the least you can bring to DazStudio if you want to continue with Nvidia. I just bought a 4070 specially for Daz. Anything above is totally out of my pocket money range.

And I don't think I'm alone : a lot of hobbyists are waiting for a real affordable solution.

    - Skip the Nvidia Iray if prices are going crazy,

    - Or find a more affordable rendering engine.

     this

other programs have pathtracing not reliant on Nvidia cards but GPU based

there must be another engine D|S could use, I would say Filament but since Mac users cannot use that

if DAZ cannot, someone really needs to make a plugin for something else such as Radeon ProRender

The existing render engines use plug-ins, as did Octane - just download the SDK and make the plug-in for the desired option (then convert al the materials).
