Maya to DAZ Studio

Hi
I created a background model in Maya and would like to export it to DAZ Studio. I tried OBJ but all the parts get merged in one single OBJ, no groups or anything. I know I can export one by one, but I have way too many pieces. I tried FBX, but it loads all the parts scattered around at different scales and positions.
I ran out of ideas. Someone knows a way to take my Maya model into DAZ Studio preserving the separate pieces?
Thanks!

All I have is Autodesk student, & not the full version of Maya . So our experiences maybe different because I do not have all the features the full version has. but I'll try to help.. did you try exporting your scene as collada or as a "wavefront Obj model Set"? when you FBX your scene set in Maya you have to have all .Obj selected and then in the export/fxb tab use the scene export option instead of "export obj as" option, That should give you options to transfer all obj in your scene at once. to your selected file folder your going to save them in... your rigging won't transfer over to Daz studio at least it never has for me. & that goes for Vice-versa too Daz rigging won't transfer to Maya. and some of your mat zones may also need to be tweaked or are lost all together if they are individualized zones created just for Autodesk file formats ....It be a big help to you If you have a Subscription to Lydia.com, there is a tutorial on Maya & How export complete scenes. https://www.lynda.com/Maya-tutorials/Exporting-scenes-selected-objects/149249/163226-4.html
I have had a subscription to Lydia.com for a long time , its well worth it if your working with complex software like autodesk and Adobe Products, they have other software tutorials as well. I use it for helping me stay up to date with developing web sites right now I'm in the Jquery / Javascipt section. learning how to create interactive forms pages, photo galleries & slide shows, interactive html5 web pages for gaming etc using Java & Jquery, .which to me is as about as hard as learning 3d with Daz :)
Have a great day sorry i'm not much help
I've never been able to get an obj to load as multiple objects that way either. Which is a shame, since there's a nice little feature in the obj importer but not fbx; obj import will create "ngon" entries to cover rendering while still subdividing as expected. Super handy when it's called for.
What FBX options are you using? I've never had it not respect my translate/rotate scale, everything imports as they are in Maya, with or without frozen transforms. In the fbx export options, check Advanced>fbx file format. I'm using "FBX 2014/2015" with no problem. Everything else is at default except Selection Sets for geometry (which i just now discovered doesn't work, i thought it did). Preserve instances hasn't worked for me, but I don't know if those actually work in DS anyway.
Though D|S seems to randomly crash or hang using file>import, but has does that much less that when I drag and drop.
Thanks all for the suggestions!
I tried FBX, but 2016 loads everything scattered and scaled at different sizes. Bellow 2016 loads an empty scene.
The closest I`ve got is with DAE-FBX (Not FBX). I still don`t know how to handle scale with that format, but using meters and then scalling to the desired size in DAZ Studio seems to work. If someone is interested, in the export options just uncheck everything except Default File Extensions (or DAZ Studio crashes on import). And be double sure "Lights" is unchecked (or Maya crashes on export).
Otherwise, it seems like a very close transfer from Maya to DAZ Studio. It even preserves groups and shaders as close as possible. I don`t know about rigging, I`m only doing architecture.
:)
When you saved everything to fbx, did you freeze your transformations to 0 our scale and tranform? Also did you scale up? I find that Daz imports fbx files pretty small.
Before exporting did you combine your mesh or did you leave them seperated?
I do not have Maya but obj files with multiple meshes do load in Hexagon and select all send to DAZ studio loads separate meshes.
