Oh, yes, thanks. I was searching under train rather than railway. Oh, but I still can't find the train that goes with the station, all the trains are more modern...

The train seems to be the one from this excellent set: http://www.daz3d.com/historic-japanese-train-station

That is also a very nice station but I don't think it is the one in the OP's picture attacments. Notice the brick walls and clock in the first of the OP's attached pictures.

No, the station is Old Railway Station, no doubt. But the train is from the Japanese station. The OP asked for that in the second post. smiley

OK, thanks everyone! :) I never thought to look at the Japanese train. It's a nice set, but way more than I need. I wish there was just a single US or even European retro train. I thought I saw one somewhere, I thought here, maybe somewhere else or maybe I'm just imagining it!

There are rather a lot of trains around and about. But they aren't necessarily for Poser/Studio. I think there are a few free ones of variable quality on ShareCg or some other places. There are also vendors who specialize in railway models like DryJack over on Rendo. His stuff covers a fair amount of period, but is mostly mid-20th century.

There also tends to be a diagreement on how far apart the rails should be, which can be an issue depending on your viewpoint.

    OK, great! Thanks everyone! :)

I'm wondering also if this would work with retexturing, I'm surprised no one's done it, but I'm going to check out all the freebies first :)

Oh, this is exactly what I was looking for, but I think it's an actual model, not 3D, confused by the site. It's the outside of the Orient express, they've done the inside here, why not the outside? PAs???  Yes, this is a physical model, someone please create a 3D version :)

Would this work for the passenger car:http://www.daz3d.com/mk1-railway-carriage?  Its not the same but still vintage

  • chickenmanchickenman Posts: 1,202

Parkside also has some train cars and engines

Saw the MK-1 one, but it looks a little too modern. I'll probably get the Parkside one and try retexturing but I hope a PA would do an Orient Expess in the future :)

There is this at Turbo  for $10: http://www.turbosquid.com/3d-models/passenger-wagon-ws-15-3d-model/810380 and includes obj format.

And this free at ShareCG: http://www.sharecg.com/v/49099/related/5/3D-Model/Train-Passenger-Car but 3DS format

If you have the Parkside Passenger car above, you can get these textures for it at Renderosity:

    http://www.renderosity.com/mod/bcs/roadnames/86685/

They are for Poser, but they work well in Studio.

...and if you are good with a bit of kitbashing you can change the textures to actual RL road names as the colour schemes are very similar to the real railway ones.  I can already see turning one into the Milwaukee Road and another into the Great Northern.

    What about Chicago and Northwestern?

  • kyoto kidkyoto kid Posts: 41,397

...the Boston and Pacific one would work for the 50s- 70s livery.  Before that they were affiliated with the Union Pacific which would be the Denver and Southern texture. The Rio Grande & Western is perfect for the Penn Central.  The Southern Coast lines works for the older Milwaukee Road, before they partnered with Union Pacific

    sketchup? https://3dwarehouse.sketchup.com/model.html?id=a80f502967826c13cfe1c372eac58591

actually one of the better sketchup models I have seen, the obj export in DAZ studio wireframe and textured (you need to delete the billboard)

Both the textures for Parkside and the sketch up one looks good. I downloaded the collada file, is that the right one? Is there a way to get .skp files into DS or Poser? Thanks.

I made the windows a new surface called Window using the geometry editor and used iray uber shaders

collada can be a bit dodgey

I use an obj exporter I got for Sketchup 7 but Sketchucation has a free one for later versions

otherwise grab the trial version of the pro version an earlier sketchup and save it to that version (I have 6 for this with still 400+ hours left on trial)

You can just get the free Sketchup Make. You get the 30 days free trial of Sketchup Pro with it anyway. Then when the 30 days are up just get one of the free obj exporters such as the Lipid OBJ exporter to use with it

Edit to add: @Sad that is a nice Sketchup find. I had seen a couple of the Orient Express models on Sketchup but they weren't nearly as nice as the one you found.

The Sketchup model is pretty good once pulled into DAZ. As stated, a bit of work on the windows and it looks qutie nice. If you do have the MkI Carriage, with a bit of judicious scaling and hiding of surfaces, you can, with some instancing, make a decent interior, given that the Mk1 corridor and compartment setup is pretty close to the OE arrangement...

Its funny, but after looking at the pic posted (And I wonder if its not a render as wel), I can;t help be see Suchet's Poirot as the porter, Albert Finney's Poirot looking out the window, Jeremy Brett as Holmes with his head out, and Japp and Watson following behind, with eprhaps Miss Lemon near the porter...

SO. yes, there i a render in progress, stay tuned..

    Cheers

    Harold
