    But isn't it futile:

    free <-> strict protection ?

Free items have a EULA indicating what you're allowed to do with it.  Being free does not give you unlimited rights to do anything with it.

For those who are enjoying the freebie, I am glad you are enjoying it! We had a ton of fun creating that set.

For those who are upset it is encrypted only and so will not be trying it out, we completely respect that decision and are sorry if you are unhappy with us as a result. sad (Though honestly when freebies are released and how is not under our control)

I do feel however that giving something for free for people to try out the system for themselves (rather than taking anyone else's opinion of it one way or another) is a good idea though, and am glad to see the set will give people that opportunity (for those who want it) heart

I am not unhappy with you!

I am just unhappy that they are trying it with something I want, because it is pretty ... LOL

It isn't security incompatabilities...ALL the other AV/Security software providers have no problem with the #2 database software on the planet.  Only one company has a 7 plus yr problem with it...you figure out what is going on.

They say it is your problem. Over 90 billion of customers using ZA don't have any problem with any other software on the world.

And AGAIN with the Encrypted only!

yeah I didn't realize till I was trying to download. Oh wells. I kinda want to ask them to remove it from my account ;) But will refrain from troubling them since eventually I'll probably have 4.9.

You'd think with all the proud claims about 30 day returns and the fact that this item was free so no credit needs to be sorted, that there wouldn't be a problem returning it but no; apparently it's a matter "resolved" by me closing my eyes and pretending it's no longer in my product list.

After much deliberation about "downloading this means I say "yes" to encryption", I today "bought" the product.

The sole reason is that this will be my one and only encrypted test item. Yes, there was encrypted stuff right at the beginning of the BETA test phase, but that has fortunately changed. I'm not willing to buy encrypted stuff at this time. But what I also don't want to do is basing my opinions on mere "hearsay". I prefer to be able to make tests on my own machine, and see what's happening, and how encrypt ticks.

Does that mean I will purchase encrypted content in the future? Probably not. I haven't bought a single encrypted item outside of this free one, not even the "free with purchase" ones.

So, for testing exactly how and where encrypted content messes with things, I's like to thank DAZ 3D to listen to requests and offering a truly free product released for exactly that reason. Because, as others have already pointed out, in the end it will matter how many actual sales DAZ3D will get in the next couple of months for the encrypted items they will release. Those numbers will ultimately speak much louder than any postings here in the forum.

I'd give it a little time. They told me it'd be removed as soon as possible, but given how few names I see from many tickets, I'm guessing there's not that many in the customer service handling all the requests. It was removed from my product list on the site. Studio still sees it, and will still download it, but then it seems Connect has issues with keeping current with orders as I've had purchases go nearly a day or two before showing up in Connect no matter how I tried to update.

Yeah, it took a little bit for the product to clear, but it did. And now I see it in the store and I wag my finger and move on.

I use a different finger gesture. But only at the Encrypted download part.

The set itself was really nice, and I really hope it sees an unencrypted release.

Offer ends Thursday 02.11.16, 11:59 PM, MST (-7 UTC)

2nd of November 2016 is a Wednesday. So what got screwed up, day of the week, month or the day number? Also, seriously, they make a freebie for more than half a year? Why? If it's free for so long, why not just make it permanent?

American date format.. 11th of Feb :)

You both really ought to switch to the rational date format: 2016.02.11. cheeky

    Everyone should...

  • Yeah, not even bothering. Testing done, got a good scare reading the part of the DMCA about DRM and the criminal penalties attached to anything that might be considered circumventing it. I'm not having DRMd content on my machine.

How do you SAY the date?

Nobody starts with the year...so how is that 'rational'

It's the ISO format, and the recommended format in IT - because it's logical, mathematically.

If you say February 5th, then writing it 02/05/2016 makes perfect sense.

Just like, if you say it's the 5th of February, 05 02 2016 makes sense.

Having more than one date format, like above, is the irrational thing, in a globalized, computerized world. It's like having two different names for the color red.

Um... Zone Alarm has a list of incompatabilities and false positives as long as my arm, just so ya know.

  • Instant buy- and then, belatedly, I checked for status. Encrypted only. Have filed ticket for return.

They really need a fat icon for encrypted stuff.

I agree.... a REALLY FAT icon to indicate it is encrypted........ Please.

I just want nothing to do with the encrypted content.

And again no mention in the newsletter that it is Connect-Only -- they did at least do that with one of the first sets (that turned out not to have been encrypted when it should've). Beginning to see a pattern here, it is obvious these "Friday Freebies" will always be full of DRM and thus useless to me and every other Poser/Carrara/etc. user. Might as well be wearing a big Danger: Do Not Touch! sign, so from now on I ain't even gonna look. no

I have a laptop that I sometimes use to demonstrate Studio; the account on there is separate and has _never_ spent a penny in the DAZ store.  All the content/runtime is free stuff (this includes things like the M4 superhero pro bundle that was a freebie last year for a couple of days).  It is also my canary-in-the-coalmine system for 4.9, which I haven't yet installed on my desktop.

So, I am getting the encrypted/Connect freebies, but only for my 'free account' on the laptop.  Hopefully, the fact that this 'customer' is an incredible cheap bastard, while my free-spending normal account is ignoring the canoes and carpet, will contribute to the statistical analysis that the beancounters are doing

Took only a day for the "make a wish" to hit the torrent sites....wonder how long the "canoes" will take?

Not long I imagine, three static props are pretty trivial to export, and since they are free a pirate did not even need to use a dodgy credit card to steal them.

I have picked up two freebie canoes from other sources recently, that look very similar to these, so I am wondering if I should bother with them at all, particularly as I am still on 4.8.

A canoe I can not, but thanks a lot. It was nice, but you see, encrypted is not for me.

  • Also, why did my username suddenly get _57253d0671 added to it?

You have been activated. You will receive your mission briefing via email. If you are killed or capture, DAZ will disavow all knowledge of you, your pets, your mission and most things in general. This message will self destruct in... Well, as long as it takes you to destroy it... there is a sledgehammer out by the mailbox, please hurry.

A canoe I can do, so thanks from me, too! It's free, so I'll get it and see. It is encrypted, but I'll take the chance. It's into the cart without a second glance.
