The Bone Dragon

Was the Bone Dragon retired here in the DAZ3D store?  I had it on my wish list a while back.  I needed it for my comic in the future, but at the time my job sucked and my funds were too low to purchase it.

Now as my desert dungeon chapter swiftly approaches in my comic and I have a much better job to afford the product, I just noticed that I am unable to find it anywhere.  A search for a Dragon Skeleton brings up an entirely different and older product, but not the one where the conforming "Bone Dragon Spikes" from Sequestrian fits on to.  I bought that old one anyway, but I'm afraid that Sequestrian's Bone Dragon Spikes, which keep going on sale periodically, are useless to me if I don't have the main model to fit them on to.  (And I have my eye on the spikes too)

If it's permanently gone from DAZ, does anyone know where else I might be able to purchase it legally?  (I've only seen bit torrents of it when I queue Google search engines, and I don't go that route).

PS: Does anyone know who made that here?  I was new to DAZ when I added it to my wish list, so I wasn't well-versed in which vendor made what at that time.

    It looks like it's gone. There is no product page for it anymore from my product library. The addon spikes are still here though. https://www.daz3d.com/bone-dragon-spikes.

    The dragon itself shows Sequestrian and Brady Dalton. Sequestrian still has a store here; however, Brady does not.

    @Vaskania,

    Thank you for answering my second question! I appreciate knowing who had made the product.  Hopefully, I can track them down elsewhere on the net if they use the same name.  Maybe Brady Dalton just moved to their own site, like in the case with the Reallusion and their iClone products.

    @Khory,

    Thank you!  Yes, I had bought that in lieu of The Bone Dragon... But I really wanted the spike additions from Sebastian to make the most wicked bone dragon ev-ah in my comic... BWAH-HA-HA-HA!

    devil

    Eh... Maybe his the bone dragon will pop up elsewhere, or I can pimp out the original Dragon Skeleton doing what I do best in DAZ...  Parenting every  .obj freebie that I can possibly get my hands on to anything with rigging!

    No idea...I thought it was there not that long ago.

    But I just noticed that there is no compatible figure listed on the Spikes page.

    @mjc1016,

    Yeah, that's pretty much how it was for me too.  At the time I placed the Bone Dragon into my wish list, I had just discovered DAZ's wishlist area.  I was very, very new to this site back when I first found it and just didn't understand anything about anything 3D whatsoever.  Not like now, where I'm so hopelessly addicted to DAZ3D studio that I have an iPad that I keep next to my pillow at night so I can always check DAZs new sales first thing in the morning and again at before I go to sleep (and a million times throughout the day just in case a flash sale).   Speaking of which....

    Anyway... Yeah.  It kinda sucks.  I'll just have to improvise in my comic somehow.   I do hope the vendor of the Bone Dragon is okay though, and just pulled out for the greater good of themselves and didn't die or suffer anything else tragic.  (It did happen with another 3D genius from ShareCG - he died from cancer and his products were pretty incredible).

    Sorry... I'm rambling because I need sleep.  Thank you for replying!

    Probably just 'retired'...and the spikes should probably join it in retirement.

    I really hate when people remove stuff. :/ I mean, if someone's willing to buy it... I've bought stuff that's in the triple digit product ID, from 15 years ago.

    The problem would be that likely no one was willing to buy it for a couple of years...That tends to be why things are retired.

    I actually grabbed this at the end of Octoboer so it was at least still here then.

    What I hate is when they remove stuff without any warning. I wish they would at least let us know so we could get it before it is removed. For example, Stonemason wanted to remove stuff that he felt were old and not up to his current standard; BUT he told us months in advance that they would be retired.

    Most people don't want to deal with the lobbying to change their mind about removing products.

    Unfortunately then they have to deal with people not buying their new products because they dislike that vendor because of this ...

    Anyway: there sometimes is a way to get a retired product (if it is only because it didn't sell, not because the vendor doesn't like the quality anymore) by contacting Customer Support.

    I hate to say it, but that's why it's not a good idea to wishlist items more than a few years old - thy might get retired by DAZ or removed by the PA. :(

    @Valandar,

    Sadly, as I mentioned before... I was new to DAZ last year. So new that I really only stumbled upon this site to buy 2d Photoshop brushes by Deviney and nothing else.  I never really followed DAZ3D too much to understand the sales as I had been strictly a 2D ink and pen comicbook artist at this point last year.  It wasn't until I had really started using the DAZ program itself that I actually began to follow the 3D content at all, and I did this because:

    1) My hands have been shaking too much to pencil/ink my comics anymore.

    2) I got tired of the trolls picking apart my artwork and saying that my characters' designs were inconsistent.

    3)  Drawing with pencil, lining with a Coptic marker and India ink, then scanning to digitally create linework in Illustrator in order to export into Photoshop later and then add dialogue in Manga Studio and add backgrounds and PNG freebies downloaded from DeviantArt is just waaaay too time consuming.

    (We're not  even going to mention all of the credits that I had to give just for the borrowed DevArt content).   My output of comic pages was relatively low per week at only 2-6 pages average.   Now, with DAZ content, I output 10 pages average a week (when I'm not designing entire cities like I had this weekend).

    Anyway, these events became a catalyst for switching to 3D.   That's when I really immersed myself in the actual studio and store and the whole designing/posing of the 3D figures. I quickly began to invest in vendor content and creating wishlists by August 2015.  I added the Bone Dragon to my wishlist in September 2015 -- so, honestly - I had no way of knowing how old this item was in the store itself.

    By the time I had a better job to afford the model and had nearly reached the place in my comic that I needed it -  well, it was gone without any notification.

    When RuntimeDNA announced that Aeon Soul was going to retire certain Victoria 4 clothing items from their store, I hurried to buy the outfits before they were gone.  I feel that I had been given ample time to snatch up what I wanted and it seemed fair.  Now those items are gone.

    I wish this had happened with the Bone Dragon, because then I would have prioritized my funds towards that instead of my other purchased content that could have been snagged later.  I like the Dragon Skeleton, but for my comic vision, the Bone Dragon is 100% of what I actually needed to go from a 'well, that's nice' reaction to 'Dude, that's freaking AWESOME!!!' reaction with my fans.

    oh well...

    Thank you everyone for your time and attention in this matter! Maybe I can track down the artist somehow and arrange to buy it in a private arrangement out of store... Probably can't due to legalities and disclaimers though.

    Hopefully it will pop up elsewhere in the future like Fisty's liquid shaders had popped up on ShareCG.

    I will add that it is strange to remove a beautiful model like the Bone Dragon, but continue to keep the Victoria & Michael 1 & 2 content here, which is absolutely incompatible with most DAZ models and I'm not even sure that old stuff is compatible with DAZ 4 either.

    Maybe we're all just incorrect in our grievances in this post... Perhaps the vendor and DAZ had a disagreement, resulting in the vendor being ousted and/or aptly removing themselves altogether from this site.

    To quote the narrator of the old Tootsie Roll commercial, "The world may never know."

    "Perhaps the vendor and DAZ had a disagreement"

    Realy doubtful. I don't think that the vendor had even been active at Daz for quite a few years.

    Oh, man... I'm glad I got these products when I did. Just a shame that no poses for them showed up!

    @Khory,

    Well, if DAZ executives had it removed due to low sales volume, then maybe I can contact someone there and see about purchasing it directly from them in some arrangement.  Hopefully, they didn't send it through the ole' recycle bin and hit "Delete."  Maybe DAZ archives their retired content on a disk somewhere or a Zip drive or something....

    They DO hold the license for it after all somewhere.  I'm not sure if the license on PA content expires.  I will send a note out to customer support now.  The worst response I might get is a, "Nope!" <--- in tech support language, of course, but at least I tried and I checked the forums first by default of their customer support.

    Hey, if they have it - I will pay for it.  No problem.  I really need that model even sans pose set and all... It's just so beautiful and exactly what my comic needed.

    @Xenomorphine,

    I'm going to try my damnedest to buy it from DAZ directly if they will allow it....

    #GreenWithEnvy crying

    Yeah, there's no poses for the Leviathan whale either here and I could have sworn that I saw a set of poses somewhere. I linger at too many 3D sites looking for anything to snag for my comic that fits methinks.

    Well... Despite that fact, I will still cherish and use it if I can get a hold of it from DAZ directly.

    They can't do that - or previous buyers couldn't redownload the content ...

    Hmm Sequestrian still has a store here, tho it seems the last product was a M4 one, so no idea if he/she is still active. However he DID partner with Mighty_Mestophales on a lot of those products, so it's possible you could contact Mighty_Mestophales who is still quite current, to see if you can contact Sequestrian about the Bone Dragon.

    And if you can't find a way of contacting Mighty_Mestophales, he's partnered with midnight_stories on a recent release, and I do know midnight_stories is quite active on the forums here so a PM to him, could put you in contact with MM who could then possibly put you in contact with Sequestrian.

    Heh. Convuluted yes, but it may get results for what you want.

    Now I'm curious, in the "What's Included and Features" it lists:

    • Bone Dragon Spike-Ready Figure (.CR2)
      • Prepped for Adding Spikes

    So is the Bone Dragon included with the spikes?

    @Xenomorphine there is a mat and pose set on sharecg. http://www.sharecg.com/v/25321/gallery/11/Poser/Scourge-of-the-Wastes-for-Bone-Dragon

    @Petercat the spikes are a separate product still in the store.

    I guess I'm confused. What would the Bone Dragon Spike-Ready Figure be? Is it just an image or texture in the Canon Raw (.CR2) format? Or is it a pose in the Poser .CR2 format?

    I'll be learning new things about Daz for the rest of my freakin' life!

    Petercat:

    The Bone Dragon Spikes includes only the "Spikes ready" cr2, but no obj for the Bone Dragon, so you still need the original package to load that cr2.

    Does Daz actually ask PAs to retire items? GIven that I see things that look like they date back to the Zygote days still available for sale in the store, I find it doubtful that either age or lack of sales move DAZ themselves to retire anything. The only factors I've seen that lead to retired items are vendor decision, vendor departure, unresolvable technical issues, or  legal issues (copyright etc...)

    I'm not sure if they ask vendors; but DAZ does retire some of their own items. For example Victoria 1 & 2 and Michael 1 & 2 are no longer available

    I hear you. I wish that DAZ had "bargain basement for soon-to-be-discontinued products" like some other sites have. It would be a good place to temporarily stash products that don't meet current vendors' current standards before they're gone forever.

    You got me curious.

    I have both Bone Dragon and the spikes. Got them Sept 12, 2014.  I googled to see if I could find anything for you, but no luck.

    Thanks for clearing that up. The more I learn about Daz, the more I learn what I don't know!
