GTX 970 x2 or GTX 980 ti x1

What is better? Two GTX 970 or one GTX 980 ti

Thanks!

...for Iray rendering in GPU mode, the 980 TI is better value as it has 2 GB more memory than the 970. If your scene exceeds the memory of the GPU it dumps to CPU mode which is much slower and in that case, having all the CUDA cores in the world will mean nothing.

I'd say wait for Nvidia to come out with their Pascal cards. If you still want a 9xx after that, the prices should drop after release of the newer cards.

Pascal is going to be announced at Computex at the end of May, and the general consensus is they will release the mainstream versions of pascal consumer cards (the pascal equivalent of 970 and 980) will go on sale around july/august. The Ti and titan versions will not be until end of 2016 or early 2017

    Wait for pascal.

But to answer your question; two things to consider. The 980ti has 6GB or RAM; the 970 only 4GB; but haveing one card being able to do just rendering and one purely for display is a plus imo; and when you can, you just add he other card to assist.

I bought one 970, to see how I liked it and how much use I was going to get. If I got fed up (which I wasn't expecting as I use Blender too) then it was less of an outlay; then I added a 980ti.

Chances are (but obviously I can't guarantee) that second hand 900 cards will take a dip in price at some stage, once Pascal has been reliesed. (I'll be looking at getting another; I may add to the system, or have it replace the 970 and then use the 980ti as the display card.)

I'd like a titan, so will see what the new one costs, and how many limbs I have to sell to get one.

    ... Choices. :)
