Neat idea for a thread. My avatar is from a game community. I am a forum mod for two sites and one day the forum admin as a joke gave all of us 22 mods (big gaming site) emoji avatars for the day, LOL. Needless to say the members liked mine and said it fit my online personality and it's pretty much stuck with me since then. I also use it as my DA avatar.
As for personal character creation that gets used often. I have been a Red Sonja fan thru comics and graphic novels since I was a kid. I created a version of her thru kitbashing and personal modeling for genesis 1 and have been remaking Red Sonja versions and renders since then up to genesis 3 (haven't finished one yet for G8, but I'm close). This is one of my fav renders of the G3 version

Very nice Sonja character... I like how she has just a bit of Angelina in the face as well. Very nice.
Thanks Steve! In addition to all the dials used, the biggest part of the face morph is Bianca for V4 from JKing which has been a fav V4 morph used in all generations since
Mine is an old Carrara render of V4 (I used Carrara for years before Daz Studio) cut short because otherwise it would be violating the TOS. I made it during a cold winter.
Graymouser69 - Was that Doc Legume or a different guy? I HATED him waaaay back in the early days of Rendo, but I grew to at leat respect his don't-give-a-hoot attitude and that he was able to entertain many people with his bizarre art. If it wasn't him, I'm sorry; any artist's passing is tragic and a loss to the community.
@SnowSultan no, he was always known as dontatro on rendo, very friendly with sometimes a wry sense of humor.
My avatar was a doodle I made for my twin daughters a few years ago... I think it was around 2012 or 13...
The story... None really, they were about seven at the time and very loud... They used to come up in back of me while I was working and clown around, sing and create mayhem... The drawing is a computer's eye view of them and me.
The one on the right (with the Nerf gun) liked the drawing and said I should use it as my "DAZ picture"... So I scanned it, ran it though some filters to clean it up and colored it in Photoshop and used it for all my avatars.
The clutter is representative of the various books, parts and tools found on my desk... Including the ever present can of wasabi peas.
I'll probably end up changing it in the near future, as they are much bigger now and the one on the left is not into Disney princess stuff anymore...
Not the best image when you can actually see what's going on, but as a thumbnail of a doodle, it works okay.

I love it - and the fun, chaotic, silliness seems to it fit your personality really well. :) Your posts often make me laugh (sometimes while scratching my head, but laughter is definitely present while reading many of your posts lol).

The avatar was made for me by one of the eBay forum members long time ago. At that time I was more active on eBay and in the eBay forums where I was known as Computernut because I worked a lot with computers It was also well known on those forums that I drink a lot of coffee. So, the avatar incorporated those elements (computer, nut, and coffee cup)
My avatar is of an image I did, but it looked so much like me (I have a serious case of Resting Bitch Face - RBF would be the family friendly term...lol), that I used it for my avatar. :P
One of my proudest creations from the Dial a Face series was Cardinal Richelieu for M4. He was a combination of Morphus (extremely necessary for the nose and cheek jowls) and Morphs++, usually with the M4 Aged texture. I successfully imported him to G3M with GenX and because he's a fairly unusual face he's probably gotten more play time than most of the other dial a face characters.
Here's a picture of the M4 version, I will try to edit this post and put something up for the G3M version later.
And here is G3M Richelieu, with Gwenbleiz and Elijah mixed in:
OK, I'll play, I think this fits here. My avatar is representational image of Death of The Endless from Neil Gaiman's Sandman comics. My user's name comes from there too. (Story listed elswhere.)
This was the first avatar I created, and I think it was a render of Victoria 3 with a custom skin texture. I can't find the original files and I had to download this copy from another site, heh.
Avatar update time! Aiko 6, original render using my Iray Toon Eyes product and a custom eye reflection map for the Ankh.
Cute and very close to what I wanted.
Postwork Filter Forge, one of the halftone screen filters.
Good, but not it. Postwork Topaz Clean Filter, Cartoon preset, Bingo! Also added the udjat eye.
Cropped in closer up to have it read better at the smaller size, added my initials and another Ankh for good measue and the final result.
My avatar came about by coincidence. I had just started playing with Studio
when my neighbor girl came to visit and asked me if I could make an image
of her. Sifting through the store, I found Andrea for Genisis, which was pretty
close - close enough to her skin, head shape etc.
Then she brought me a story to illustrate for her creative writing class, based
(loosely) on real life, and a webcomic was born. It's "Superman was a pussy",
if anyone cares to look. Remember, "loosely based".
The avatar is Teresa, (Teh-ray-sah) which is her real name. She and her three
friends are major characters in the webcomic. I've tried to keep their personalities
close to real life, even now calling them sometimes with a "How would you
react" scenario. Even their comic back stories are true to life.
(Mr. Walker is me).
And yes, she really does have shaggy dark green hair.
I'm astounded that the site is still even there. I think all the links are broken by now. I still see icons which were obviously made on it floating around though.
It's an attempt at a self portrait, but of course it's much younger, thinner and cuter...
Here is a cyberfay or neopixie, again a mix and match of characters ( I remember Rain and Musoke and again another skin )and morph dialing plus some texture
I'm using this one as an avatar as well, she represents me when I talk to my readers as the author of my comic and she's in use on dA as well.
my avatar is one of my creatures I sculpted out of clay when I went to art school very big still unfired too sitting outside covered in a plastic bag and painted in paintshop pro. The clown guy is me faceswapped and painted via paintshop pro and is kinda the real me peronality wise really weird twisted sense of humour little crazy and have laugh attacks and a smile that makes some nervous which except for the two top middle and four small bottom middle is filled with sharp jagged fangs the badge is my tattoo of a horror comic character named Smiley The Psychotic Button. Lots of others of this version of me with my online friends in photo manipulations which before daz and still do a lot of
Hm.. here my avatar is a render I did a long time ago, but I've been thinking of changing it to one of the newer ones or to a photo of one of my former ferrets. I don't remember if the short "story" was inspired by the render, or if the render was inspired by the story.
Daz Avatar, Feelings:
He felt her breath even out as she fell asleep, a smile touched his lips as her hair tickled his chin. His eyes lost focus as he rested his chin against her head, her breath warm against his bareshoulder. His mind lost in the memories of the war he has just returned from, while holding the woman who had waited for him to come home.
On other places I have... hm.. let's see
Deviant Art, The Look : No actual story behind this one, was just playing around with lights and got this
And lastly, the avatar I was thinking of changing my daz one to is a recent render of mine. It didn't had a story when I started, but I found myself coming up with ideas for more renders and stories for this man :)
possible new Daz avatar (unless I go with a ferret), Hawkmaster Portrait 1
I also have a lot of different avatars when it comes to gaming and such, as well as enjin pages for guilds I'm part of. One of them being my SWTOR sniper Chimera, who is on one of my enjin pages
This is my avatar - sort of - that I'm using in the webcomic The 4th Wall. The avatar is based on 3DUniverse's Toon Generation 2 female. As the story's a "behind the scenes" for the main comic, Demon Division, it has the characters from the comic looking "real", while the representation of the author/artist is a cartoonish character. The idea behind it is a bit like "Roger Rabbit", a "real human" is distorted into something that the "reality" of the electronic characters (and their perception) can accept.
My avatar and handle is a sort of joke from when my kids were into the DigiMon tv series. Greymon was one of their favorite characters, and my initials are MOM. So an old, gray Spinosaurus with a party hat seemed appropriate. : )

I can completely relate to this image. XD
Mine is a ghost ... Either that or an attempt to get rid of the annoying default one.
Mine was one of my very first creations using DS. Rendered using my NPR algorithms, of course, and an obvious homage to Da Vinci.

Mines a render of an eye... I periodically update it as I improve my rendering skills. Actually its probably due for an update
My avatar on VRChat - seemed to be a good fit for Candyland :) It was a good exercise in learning more about Blender and Unity.

Thanks.
I'm sorry...
I always read it as "The 3D Idjut"
Really, really sorry. :P

No special story behind any of my avatar ladies. I just kept playing with dials until I had something I liked. In order of appearence:
