My avatar and handle is a sort of joke from when my kids were into the DigiMon tv series. Greymon was one of their favorite characters, and my initials are MOM. So an old, gray Spinosaurus with a party hat seemed appropriate. : )

I either use a picture of my mug or I use a Wold head as most know about me.... I don't use renders from a character I put together in DAZ Studio as I want the avatar to represent me. My spirit guide is a Wolf so that's why you always see a Wolf if I'm not using my own headshot! The colorful one I use at Fb, which is one of my more creative ones!
My avatar was a doodle I made for my twin daughters a few years ago... I think it was around 2012 or 13...
The story... None really, they were about seven at the time and very loud... They used to come up in back of me while I was working and clown around, sing and create mayhem... The drawing is a computer's eye view of them and me.
The one on the right (with the Nerf gun) liked the drawing and said I should use it as my "DAZ picture"... So I scanned it, ran it though some filters to clean it up and colored it in Photoshop and used it for all my avatars.
The clutter is representative of the various books, parts and tools found on my desk... Including the ever present can of wasabi peas.
I'll probably end up changing it in the near future, as they are much bigger now and the one on the left is not into Disney princess stuff anymore...
Not the best image when you can actually see what's going on, but as a thumbnail of a doodle, it works okay.
My favorite part is the stitches :) Yup, that's what being a parent is.
My avatar came about by coincidence. I had just started playing with Studio
when my neighbor girl came to visit and asked me if I could make an image
of her. Sifting through the store, I found Andrea for Genisis, which was pretty
close - close enough to her skin, head shape etc.
Then she brought me a story to illustrate for her creative writing class, based
(loosely) on real life, and a webcomic was born. It's "Superman was a pussy",
if anyone cares to look. Remember, "loosely based".
The avatar is Teresa, (Teh-ray-sah) which is her real name. She and her three
friends are major characters in the webcomic. I've tried to keep their personalities
close to real life, even now calling them sometimes with a "How would you
react" scenario. Even their comic back stories are true to life.
(Mr. Walker is me).
And yes, she really does have shaggy dark green hair.
It's really neat to hear a real story like that behind one. Thanks so much for sharing. It really is amazing to me to hear some of the back stories on some of these. They look so simple at a glance, but so many of them mean so much to people. I guess that's what an avatar is really about though.

Right! But I figure if it really represents me, the feathers would have fallen out by now.... : )
Dinosaurs with feathers...wow...makes them seem slightly less menacing....until you see the teeth.

Who needs science anyway. We all know those bones were really all dragons.
Here is a cyberfay or neopixie, again a mix and match of characters ( I remember Rain and Musoke and again another skin )and morph dialing plus some texture
I'm using this one as an avatar as well, she represents me when I talk to my readers as the author of my comic and she's in use on dA as well.
My avatar is pretty simple... a slightly postworked shot of my goofy mug.
Behold, the pink potato! With Geek standard hairstyle #1 (bald + goatee)
At some point I should probably see if I can create an avatar of myself in pure CGI. I've taken some stabs at avatar creation with FaceGen, but... enh.

Always assumed Petercat meant Peter Criss, the cat-man from the band Kiss. His hair style is the same as your avatar. The glow around his hair in his solo album was also green.
This is not really an Avatar, although the character design was inspired by Avatar the movie, because we all love big blue Avatar aliens. So maybe this will fit in a thread about avatars. An avatar inspired character as an avatar in a thread about avatars. ;)
I think my avatar pic was one of the choices Daz gave us to use as an avatar before the default emojis. Since it's no longer a choice offered, I feel so special now.
My personal avatar is currently my Dwarvish Barbarian character. Although my previous one was an ogre in a Judo/Jiu Jitsu Gi (a long time passion of mine. Nothing makes you focus on the moment like not being choked unconscious.)

LOL, to true. I remember the old one, the gi stood out.

That's why I had to look twice that it's really you
My avatar is my logo which is my signature on my art. One of my best friends at Disney, when I worked there, was Japanese. He noted that when I signed CP, it looked a lot like the kanji radical for woman, Onna. I added bits that make Onna look more like my initials and that became the signature I use to this day.
The forum version has the Daz logo because I'm a mod.
Mine is LiHara, a character from a roleplay/story I am working on. She's a very warm and friendly character, especially considering she's an ice goddess.

I thought your avatar had an extra toe, but now after counting the toes I do not see any extra toes. Is it your foot?
<= I don't photograph well (bad RBF, weird smiles) so a few months after downloadung Daz I set out to create a new iconic virtual me. My goal was to create something close enough to RL me that my friends would recognize it but also capture some of my online identity and username. I like it and I now use it everywhere, even on Facebook.
<<The one I have here is just my initials made of children's blocks (and my username here and most art-related places is just my initials plus the year I started taking art a little more seriously and actually reading books on color and lighting and composition - also the year I gave in and started using a few social media sites).
The other image (below) that I use in a lot of places is a selfie I took into Photoshop and sort of sloppily painted over. To this day, this is still the only selfie I've ever taken and its the only photo of me taken in the last 15 years, because I am a ninja who is able to sense cameras and duck behind things just before the photo is taken.
I've always been an avid gamer, so art from games makes its way into my avatars. The older Final Fantasy games used illustrations by Yoshitaka Amano, and thus the games introduced me to his works. When David Bowie died, I felt compelled to use one of Amano's portraits of Bowie.
But since this wasnt my creation, I needed to make my own. That's when I used a render of myself created from Facegen as a Mass Effect character, one of my favorite gaming series. (We don't count Andromeda...)
It is a pretty accurate likeness, except I generally don't wear armor in public. This is Genesis 2, I have considered updating it since Facegen updated and works even better now. I'd also like to use an actual game model for a more accurate outfit, and use some things I've learned since then.
In other places I might use icons of Mega Man sprites, the flaming skull of Gurren Lagann, or still shots of JoJo's Bizarre Adventure, usually old Joseph in his "OH MY GAWD!" pose from the manga, or sometimes the anime. Because hearing the Japanese voice actor over act these lines from the manga (which are spoken in English) is just about the best thing ever. Plus he is dressed like Indiana Jones, which is icing on the cake. Half the fun of JoJo is finding what American music references wind up as characters or the name of an ability. The manga has been going for an incredible 30 years, though it has changed greatly during that span.
My forum profile picture is us (me and Todd) taken somewhere in Serbia ;) I've only changed it because people wanted to see humans behind the machine.
Usually everywhere I post art it's my girl Faith, by the name Faith Fawkes with one of my infamous first Octane renders (I do better these days) several years ago, with a kitty hat and a cigarette. She started pretty much as the digital projection of me back on Genesis first generation, by mixing Aiko5 and some morphs by the looks of pictures of myself until I learned how to morph in Blender and make my own textures, and later through Gen2 and Gen3 and nowadays Gen8 she shed off her Aiko base and became more of a "normal" look girl, somewhat different and less toony than her first iterations. She got the last name Fawkes by Guido/Guy Fawkes as my favorite line is always "You can call me V" since nobody in their sane mind can pronounce my name right (it's Verica, diminutive of the name Vera which translates to Faith). Most of my renders, unless strictly certain character themed, are just Faith doing things, usually contemporary themes and clothes, no nudes (ever) and she is always blonde. She's been my alias for over 4 years now and probably for the good chunk of forseeable future :)
As a balance Todd has a digital girl named Briana Baxter, adventurist and troublemaker, which was quiet a conversation starter when we first met as both girls by now became 3D personalities and take good lead in both of ours art. They're both even shown in my Fabric Factory main promo image here in the store although we rarely render each others girls, lol.
My actual avatar is Bubba, purchased as an M4 and upgraded across generations. He's the only older black male on the market that I know of -- and as far as I've been able to tell, always has been -- and I'm an older black male, so. He's had a few different avatar versions over the years. Most recently, he's been very steampunk. Not sure why.
There's no background on the forum avatar version of the image, because it didn't read at that size.
A version of him used elsewhere is ... differently steampunk, I guess. And possibly a touch Mad Hatter.
And here he is back in 2015, as a G2M, I'm guessing, given the hair and date.

If you really like May, there is a lot more of her in my DeviantART gallery than in my Daz3D gallery - http://mattymanx.deviantart.com/

Rawn (the Avatar)
Mine is old. It is a blend of several V4 characters. I haven't updated in ages. I am definitely not "the best". :)

This is the 2005 C4D render but was originaly made in TrueSpace 1998.One of the first models I ever made.

My avatar is my namesake character from Guild Wars 2 wearing the witch's outfit. Alas not a render, but an altered screenshot.
I use one of two avatar images.
