G3 male teen?

I am looking for Gen 3 male teen, visually around 16 years old, not some fancy model or anime/cartoon; just a common 16 year teen male. Did a search but only females appeared. Please advice - both how to refine the search and/or the name of the possible models.

Thanks in advance.

I would suggest checking SF-design store here and at Rendo, they have quite nice teen males characters.

Other useful ressource if you want to build your own character would be the Growing Up morphs and textures by Zev0.

A good place to start is: https://www.daz3d.com/growing-up-for-genesis-3-male-s combined with a suitable texture such as https://www.daz3d.com/growing-up-skin-for-genesis-3-male-s or you could just use a texture from your existing G3M characters. If you have https://www.daz3d.com/genesis-3-uv-swap-male-and-female-base you can use an G3F skin for a "younger' complection.

There are a couple of complete teen male characters at Rendo, but, to my eyes, they don't look quite right.

    Hope that helps.

Would Kenji 7 work for you? Not too stylized.

Ryan 7 is probably a bit too young but I'll add it just in case.

On an extra note... please be aware that teens come without genital materials. So if you want to use it for... "anatomical study" images, (outside of having to buy an anatomical element), you'd have no skin to use on it.

Thanks for the suggestions. My additional problem is I am a Blender guy so learning the nuts and bolts of Daz 3D will take a time; I just hoped for some quick (and relatively cheap) solution as from what I have seen the G3 have more stuff for them.

Since you mention cheap, you could also look for free characters. Here are two morphsI found by searching "teen" in Rendo free stuff, for example (you need the base head and body morphs)

    Thanks.

BTW - what is mean by "skin" in Daz Studio? Is this the most basic skin textures - w/o any bumps, pores etc?

In what context? People may use it to refer to the skin difuse texture only, or to the full material setting for the skin (including bump and so on) depending on the case.

I read sometimes "only skin included, no textures". Or something like this.

No, "skin" is a term for the skin surface texture with all its different maps (diffuse, subsuface, bump, displacement, transparency...) for eacch region of the body. Usually, a character comes with shape morphs and skin texture, but there are also "just" shape morphs, and "just" skin packages.

As for the aforementioned genitals, those are extra geometry and not part of the figures, though characters may contain morphs and skin texture maps for them.

    ..there is also this:

    https://www.daz3d.com/growing-up-for-genesis-3-male-s

Crikey, even had trouble using Google to find the link. Kept giving me G8 or the full male/female bundle.

  • Thanks to everyone who answered me.

Quite accidently found this pages on the forum:

https://www.daz3d.com/forums/discussion/comment/925539/#FEA - extremely useful for me and I presume can be extreme useful for everyone who is confused by the sheer numbers of  models and generations and genesis etc etc

AND is part of this more broad info:

    Couple questions more please:

Some of the komments suggested Kenji 7 or Kenji 7 Pro Bundles may be suitable to represent a teen char. So I checked what the both packages offer and should like to ask about the textures:

    1. Kenji 7 Textures Include:

    • 20 Texture, Bump, Normal and Specular Maps (4096 x 4096)
    • 18 Texture, Bump, Transparency and Reflection Maps (2048 x 2048)

Does this means 20 and respectively 18 full sets of textures, or just 20 and 18 different texture maps altogether (actually 1 set each)?

    2. Kenji 7 uses "Kenji 7 Custom UV Set". So I will not be able to use as addtional set of textures the Gen 3 starter essential textures, right? And, if I buy the Pro Bundle, I will not be able to use the textures of the included Sasori model, as it uses the base male UV map?

Definitely not 18 full sets. There's probably one base set and a few variations for thinks like eye colours.

Any map made for G3M should work, Kenji is still G3M. But the textures supplied with Kenji have been created for custom UVs specially optimized for his shape.

DAZ used to do that for all named characters up to G3, but the custom UVs are not that useful unless the shape is really different, so for G8 they've stopped doing that.

  • More questions please - how to reduce the overall height of a human? I think I saw a slider to increase the head; is there similar slider for the height?

Also is there a way to measure the overall height of the figure besides buying the Metrics add-on?

Look in the Shaping pane --> Full Body --> Real World and the height slider is towards the bottom.

(Edit: Oops, I think the Height slider is only available if you buy the G3M Male Body Morphs. I tend to consider those a must-buy product for each generation and forget that I've added them)

There is also an overall Scale parameter you can adjust for a character but of course that affects more than just height. Still, it can be useful to create a slightly more massive or delicate character than usual.

To measure height, I just add a Plane Primitive to the scene. The default axis units are centimeters, so you can set the plane to something like 170 cm above the ground for a 5'-7" character. The Windows conversion calculator is your friend.

I generally use this. (The name may say Poser, but I can confirm that it's scaled properly for Studio.)

I installed and started it; but how can I make to stay on the screen by default and w/o the DS to try o close iot when I open some other file?

Another option for measuring might be this: http://www.sharecg.com/v/69559/browse/21/DAZ-Studio/Measuring-Wall

It comes in Studio format and installs in Studio's Props folder in the Content Library when you copy it out of the zip file. It doesn't have metadata, as far as I know, so you won't be able to find it in Smart Content.

Another question about the Gen 3 starter male figure - it's face is bearded. I looked at Surfaces - Editor - Genesis 3 male - Diffuse color, but saw no other defalt texture. Is there a way to get Gen 3 male starter figure w/o beard?

I installed it but it shows height of the starter G3 figures over 7 feet. How can I calibrate it?

Edit: Restarted the whole Daz Studio again. This time the height of Gen 3 starter male is slightly over 6 feet. No idea why such differences.

If you still want to make young characters, you really should consider to buy the body and head morph sliders. Without it anything is a burden. The predefined morphs in figure packs are often inadequate. I would then buy Rhys for Genesis 3 Male, as linked by JUJU in post 773. It is by far the best skin set I ever bought for Daz Studio and I use it always also for Genesis 8. The only disadvantage is that it has no genital textures, if that would be important.

Generally I would advice to change to Genesis 8. Although I first denied to believe, unfortunately (for my purse) it is better than Genesis 3, especially in the shoulder area.

Talking about the height measurement, is there a way to snap a figure to the grid? I presumed the Reset button will do this but it seems it doesn't do it, or at least not allways. Which brings to mind the next question - what is considered "default value" for the purpose of Reset button?

The default value for a parameter is the memorised value - you can change it with Edit>Figure>Memorise.

You can enable snapping for transforms in the Tool Settings pane.
