Dark halo on Iray renders with transparent BG.

in The Commons
Hi.
I seem to have troubles rendering characters with Iray on a transparent background. I need to put them over light backgrounds in PS, but the edges, especially with high DOF have a dark halo. Is there a way to get a render without them?

Got an example you can show?
I'm thinking that DoF may be part of the problem. I usually don't have a problem without it, as I've done quite a few renders lately with transparent backgrounds and haven't rendered anything, at least in Iray, with DoF active AND a transparent background.
I've noticed that too. I've found a work around in Photoshop though: Layer >> Matting >> Remove Black Matte
Thank you, I have no example I can show right now, but I guess it is part of the render taking a while to finish. 3Delight had this issue where borders had the background color.
Without DOF it is hard to notice and Matting helps, but if you do a transparent render and a full render, there is a difference on the figure`s edges.
check to see if you have the Vignetting setting dialed in at all, under Tone Mapping in render settings. Believe vignetting is off by default, but that is essentially what vignetting does - slightly lighten or darken the edges of an image with a gradient effect.
Hi I am seeing this too and I recall yes it was a problem in 3Delight for many years then fixed around 4.6 perhaps.
It seems to have come back with Iray... although it's not as pronouced seemingly and it seems to be a dark halo / fringe / outline and does not relate to the Viewport background colour.
@Hellboy, did you find a way to stop it occuring?
Hi!
i’m seeing this also. Especially when rendering with strong DOF and a hdri and the dome turned off, ie transparent background. If I then render the background on its own and blend the layers in PS it’s ok. If the background is shifted even a bit, the dark halo appears. I think the dof is calculated with the background, visible or not.
Sadly no, creating a selection from a no lights render in PS seems to help in some cases. But nothing substantial.
