The donut shape with wrinkles on the seam looks best, imho.

@grinch2901  I love your float! Looks so cute! Would love it if you shared.

I hope you don't mind but I did one too, except I am not as fast as you,not as good either! I can share it too.

    Made a couple of renders

This is a very excellent float.  The only things I see, is the high poly count (172k!) for base resolution, and it's been hacked to triangles, which destroys edge loops and clean subdivision.

So the Rendo Prime Members' July freebies pack includes a duckie float also. This is so awesome. We went from none to quite a few duckie floats! smiley

Yes! I just got the email about the Rendo float. It's by Tipol and very nice. Not altogether like Floyd's though. Very much designed like a kids' toy, rather than an ironic statement.

Very nice thanks @grinch2901, BTW what hair are you using in the render?

It's the Sideswept Rose Hair which is a very nice freebie which you can get here: https://www.renderosity.com/mod/freestuff/?uid=893552

    Thanks

@Dave230 Thank you. I am a beginner and learning step by step (slowly). So advices are very welcome.

@Rieke77   Great render, could be mistaken for a photo.

    Thank you.

For the float I used MD and forgot to convert to quads. Otherwise I have Hexagon, Blender (wonderful program but I have trouble using it) and ZBrush (to me easier than Blender but I am still a total beginner).

I would still have a high density mesh to keep the details so would then have to "remesh" it and getting out a normal map (after a number of steps I don't master at all) with a low density mesh. I am working on it but I am not yet there!

I’m impressed you were able to get that shape using MD.  I couldn’t figure out how to make a pattern for it or I’d have tried that too.  Nice work, you are clearly better at envisioning the 3d shape unfolded than I am.

xmarose, I like yours better!  Your renders look like photos.  If you sharre it I'm sure people will love it,  me too. After all, two floats are better than one.

Oops, was asking for the link to your awesome duck float only to find it a second after I posted my request. oops again.

Oh, so you're not working with a low/high mesh, with high detail baked into the normal map? no problem, it's still a good start.

A lot of Daz models use UV symmetry, you just don't realize it until you make the connection.

@grinch2901  if you look at the UV map you'll see the shape for MD.

@Dave230  working with a low/high density and normal maps would be better but not yet at my level!

Made a simple big float, the good thing is that it works with dForce so I can drop someone on it!

@Dave230  I know very little about UVs (but learning) so every bit of advice is gold to me.

Someone in the Floyd thread was looking for the flamingo texture used on the shorts. I found it at shutterstock and thought I would post it here as well to allow people to recreate the flamingo shorts / duck float combo look.

@missuskisses  dForce on my freebie duck float. It's a bit heavy on polys but i managed to get it working on my, CPU only, older computer (7 years). Took around 10 minutes for the simulation to run.

I went a bit crazy! But didn't have any explosion (got lucky?)

Awesome! Awww, doggie. You probably did do it, though.

Just in case somebody is still desperately looking for yet another duck, Quanto released a pack of pool toys over on Rendo which includes one.

Not free though, kudos to all those above who have released freebies for us to enjoy!
