  • bye Burt, RIP

  • Interesting that they didn't mention all his gritty movies. I liked Sharky's Machine.

I know, right?. He got to do something he loved for almost an entire lifetime, and made a ton of people happy. He probably wouldn't even want us to be sad for him. Smokey and the Bandit is my favorite.

Another movie not mentioned, (probably because he wasn't the star) but he did have a part in the first Mr. Bean movie ("Bean") as "General Newton".

I didn't like his movies mostly but that Coach TV show he was in was excellently put together and funny.

  • I've just heard about this on BBC News 24.  It's very sad news.

Incidentally, they did mention Deliverance but not, as noted above, Sharky's Machine. I read the novel this was based on and I've had a soft spot for the movie ever since.

    Alex.

  • Damn I knew I should not have tossed out all my old Cosmopolitans

  • One of my short list of favorite actors. Even some of his later movies showed his charisma and that he was a man's man, but usually with respect for others that deserved it.

I remember he and Loni Anderson were such a cute couple. He was so dark, she was such a vivid blonde with the smile as big as Texas.

  • Burt Reynolds is one those people you think is always going to be here.

  • Another icon from my youth passes away... RIP.

My favourite movie of his was Hooper.

Yes, so many I grew up with seem to be passing.  (RIP to Aretha if I missed it here.)

Dennis was pretty crazy/creepy on film wasn’t he?

As for Burt, “Cannonball Run” was a fav.  Not sure they could get an allstar cast like that now.

RIP Mr. Reynolds and thanks for the memories.

I know this is just a matter of opinion, but they don't make stars like that anymore. Today's stars are talented for sure, but I don't think they're as classy. It's hard to tell because you never see today's stars in public unless it's a scripted PR stunt. Not like the old days when Dean, Frank, or Sammy would show up at a night club and just hang out. They made the place classier just by being there. And no matter how many fans he had, Burt seemed like a down-to-Earth type of guy. I'll miss him.
