hahah He'd make a perfect toon of Jonathan from Stranger Things (who always came across as a bit creepy to me). He just needs a chin cleft and he's nearly a dead ringer, imo.
I only use Genesis1 and never Genesis 8, so I didn't expect I would ever purchase any characters for the newer figures. But when Kenji 7 came out I was so impressed I had to buy him, and now once again with Luca I went and bought a character for a figure I do not use. (I guess I just have a weakness for realistic Anime males, since there are so few of them.)
Since I have GenX2 I have no problem porting Kenji 7 over to my Genesis1 for use, but I kinda forgot that GenX2 can't port morph shapes from Genesis8 to Genesis1. But I really like Luca! So what to do?
Oh well, undeterred I thought: "No problem, I'll just load up the Luca .obj shape into Carrara as a reference, then put in Genesis1, then use some soft-select modelling tools on Genesis1 to push/pull some polys into place so it looks exactly like Luca, and I'm off to the races!" How hard could it be right?
How hard could it be? Lol...
I found out that it's freakin' *really* hard. Like, far beyond my skills. On the plus side, I found out that I can very easily make Genesis1 look like a chimpanzee or an alien or a frankenstein monster, or if I want perhaps an alien frankenstein chimpanzee.
Well, shoot.
Then I had a thought. I bought all those morphkits for Genesis1 quite some time ago, who was the vendor? Oh, that was Thorne too. Hmm, maybe time to try my hand as spinning some dials to see how close I could get, using Luca as a reference. Hey, thanks to all those many many morph dials I was able to put Luca beside Gen1 and get some good results.
Now I know this isn't all the way there yet, but it's not bad either, and while I'll probably refine this a bit more, this is a useable for my purposes. Here's some 2 renders in Carrara, 1 using the Octane plugin, and 2 more using some experimentation making toon shaders in Carrara with an assist from Yatoon and Toon pro plugins.
it discusses ways of getting a G3 morph to G8, and the same methods can be used to take a G8 morph to G3. It is likely these methods will be a lot less painful than the one you were describing.

You made me spew my coffee! I think your character came out good, and love the tooned version/effect.
The 8 figure resources to use Luca in Studio are a free upgrade.....why not use the figure that you bought?
Although I can use any version of Genesis (including Gen8) in Carrara nowadays, I don't see the advantage in switching up and I see a ton of disadvantages. Genesis1 does everything I need it to do, I have an extremely large library of animation files and poses all categorized and organized to be very easy to find, converted from all prior generations and ready to go, similarly I have clothing tweaked from every generation (including up to Gen8) that is ready to go and highly organized for Gen1, I have nearly every morphkit there is for Gen1, and I know the figure inside and out, it does everything I need it to do and I don't see the advantages to moving to higher generations. Just recently purchased Skin Builder by Zevo (one of the few tools for Gen1 I didn't have before, and boy I wish I had gotten it sooner), now I can texture any Gen1 character anyway I want and don't have to worry about changing uv maps if I want to turn it from a man into a woman into a frankenstein, it's all good, and yes I can crossdress my Gen1 anytime I want, so no more saying 'gee I love that outfit would be great for what I need to do, I only wish there was a male version of it for my character'. With GenX2 I can have all the character shapes from M3/V3 up to G3M/G3F, the only things that seem at first glance I can't use on my Gen1 are texture maps and shapes G8 (though I can have some fun twiddling dials and getting in the ballpark) Plus since it's the day before the day before yesterday's model, prices are nice and *cheeep*. I can obtain all the bells and whistles for Genesis1 at discount bargain basement pricing. Try that with G8 and I might end up living in the alley behind the poor house, not that they've even come out with all the bells and whistles for the latest generation. It took quite a lot to move me off of M4/V4, but imo the Genesis1 features were enough to shift me forward, but none of the later generations has had anything close to that level of must-have super-useful features to shift me from Gen1 (at least not yet).
TLDR; (sorry for the novel-length explanation): Basically I made a conscious decision after weighing pluses and minuses to go with Gen1 as my mainstay figure for everything (just load it up, turn it into whatever I want, off to the races). I decided to 'go deep' on a figure of choice, committed to Gen1 as the best choice for my needs.

Thanks for the tip Havos, interesting stuff in that thread, will have to delve deeper and have some more fun experimenting

Thanks Worlds_Edge! There's nothing quite like the feeling of piping hot coffee spraying through my nose to wake me up in the morning
BTW, wonder why there aren't more realistic anime male characters? Seems like we've got quite a few good realistic female anime characters at this point, but not much on the male side to pair them with. I like Kenji and Luca, but prior to that it's kind of been a desert. Well actually, there's an excellent H3 character called Stratus Mcleod from way back in the day that looks quite awesome. Hey, whattaya know? It's by Thorne too. Sensing a pattern here... Just picked Stratus up, got to add that character shape to my anime library too. :)
I saw a comment relating to Luca looking slightly female some days ago. To me he seemed more like a waif and et out to see what I could do with him. By giving him a different hairstyle to those in the promo shots I think I nailed it. Have a look at Marie-Claire in my gallery. and let me have your views.
P.S I have had Stratus Mcleod ever since he was first released.

How cute is he! I'm anxiously waiting for the male version.
I think Luca pairs well with Erevan. I modified his face shape a little, and then used his skin on her. I have the uv swapper but there is an issue using his skin on her (red and other marks under arms, fingers, on her scalp) which I need to figure out.

It's easy to go from cute to kinda creepy in three seconds. Here's Luca with https://www.daz3d.com/fw-vincent-hd-for-genesis-8-male materials.

A quick sample render. A dreamy little elf prince... :3

He looks great, puts me in mind of Hiro 5
Very nice! I like the detail of him having his shoes off and the way they are posed on their sides.
Karyssa 8, Luca, and Mika 7 form an elf trio.
Perfectly matched set of elves, for sure. Nice work.
I'm a fan of Luca too!

Because Jon wants to use it in Carrara
Jon,
If you check at this thread: https://www.daz3d.com/forums/discussion/176271/morphs-from-g3-to-g8
