Complaint:  No heat in my apartment this morning. sad  I knew it was chilly in bed last night.  After about 4:00AM I kept turning up the electric blanket.  When I got downstairs I checked the thermometer on the living room wall and it said 57F.  I waited for the furnace to kick on again.  It did but no heat came from the vents.  I've turned on my emergency electric heater but that won't heat the whole apartment, just the body sitting in front of it.  I may have to wrap myself in my 'lectric blankie today.  Neighbor in the other apartment has the only thermostat in the building and controls my heat.  I talked to him and he's already called the furnace maintenance people.  So, with luck it will be fixed today.  Temperature outside is down to 25F. frown

This morning I attempted to use my wireless mouse and keyboard but neither of them would work.  They use the same usb dongle but apparently that usb thing needs to be plugged into the computer for the wireless devices to work.  I unplugged it last night so my computer’s monitor will not keep my roommate up all night.

Non-complaint:  It's Saturday, so to get out of the cold house I bundled up and decided to dig the car out of the snow again.  Only 3 or 4 inches this time but some underlying ice required the scraper end of my brush to clear the windows.  Didn't get back until mid afternoon and furnace was fixed by then.  Yay! yes

Complaint:  Popped into the grocery store for a few necessary things like bananas & milk.  Grocery store was populated with several big burly men in head-to-toe fashion coordinated camouflage gear with huge knives on their belts.  Exuding clouds of macho and he-man banter as they each carried out large cartons of beer.  I assume they were off to hunt critters.  Glad I'm not in the woods today. surprise  Weekend warriors in costume with knives, guns and beer don't instill a great deal of confidence in me. frown

Ugh. Never mix beer with vehicles, or guns, I'd be avoiding the woods too.

Alchahol and guns...just stupid!  Of course, it's hard to get that across, when a former president and buddies did the same thing, and one of them shot another of them accidentally.  Kids, don't do as I do, do as I say...that never goes over well, no matter what generation.

  • I just moved recently and now someone has, for the past 3 days, been blasting metal at full volume somewhere in my new neighborhood. If this was only going on during the day I'd be less annoyed. But they're doing it at night too. They only stopped last night around 11 because it started raining heavily.

Upon preambulating the neighborhood to see if I could figure out the source of the noise, it occured to me that I am less than 1/4 of a mile from a stadium. So it's not some guy blasting metal. It's literally Guns n Roses. So free concert, I guess?

I think that was a former VP and an old lawyer friend, not the Prez. smiley

Yep. It looks like you are getting some while we are just getting rain. However, we have high wind warnings up for to night -- Sutained speeds 35-45 and gusts up to 60 mph.

Complaint:  Curse my failing memory... angry  Last night while listening to the speaker under my pillow very quietly playing classical music all night I woke up for nature's call and as I tried to fall back to sleep I heard a beautiful short piece of music that I thought would be perfect to report about today in this thread.  I know the piece well, I even remembered its name and composer.  But this morning, for the life of me I can't remember what it was. frown  I've been sitting here browsing through my music index trying to get a flash of memory but no luck. sad

Non-Complaint:  Ten minutes later before even posting this complaint my brain kicked into gear and I remembered... surpriseyessmiley  Now, what was it again?  Oh, yeah... Francois Boieldieu's (pronounced B'wall-d'you)  harp concerto in C-major.  The whole thing's pretty but the third movement is, to me, the perfect harp composition.  Interesting & lively.  Harp is usually a seconday instrument, used as background in an orchestra.  Solo harp music is pretty for about 5 minutes but I find it empty and quickly boring, and lacking in changes in dynamics* (volume & power) and timbre (sonority, accent, feeling).  But a harp as featured instrument with orchestra as background works pretty well if the orchestra is small and doesn't overpower the limited volume of the harp.   A  "concerto" is a lengthy musical piece which usually has three movements played by one featured instrument accompanied by an orchestra.  The featured instrument  takes the spotlight and shows off the skill of the composer and talent of the musician.  There are lots of piano concertos, or violin concertos, cello concertos, or horn concertos but not so many clarinet concertos, or bassoon concertos, or drum concertos or harp concertos.

If you're interested you can listen to the whole thing or just skip to the entrance of the 3rd movement, where all the best action is.

Boieldieu: Harp Concerto in Cmaj: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_D5EnXrH6EM

1st movement (0:00)  Quick & lively, hints at the main themes

2nd movement (9:00)  Slow, relaxing.  Builds a bit then fades away in preparation for the attack of the 3rd movement.

3rd movement (13:17)  Quick & lively clear presentations of the main themes, repeating faster and faster until it winds down at the end.

    * I'm a bit biased about noticing dynamics, coming from a piano background.  After all the "piano" was originally called the "piano-forte" because of its ability to play both soft and loud as the translation of the full name suggests.

Captain Marvel... At least that what it appears to be... She will be the subject of the next stand alone movie... Then presumably show up in the conclusion to Infinity War.

Which wouldn't  make it infinite if there is a conclusion, I suppose.
