But when both version of Aron HD are installed manually it doesn't give me just the choice of either stop or replace, which is what I'd get if the two packages were identical. It gives me the merge option, so one of the packages has some additional files included. Probably not many, but at least one in the data and one in the texture folders.  (For the character folder I renamed the files and folder of the second package 'Aron B' so it wouldn't merge and get both packages muddled together.)

For the record, I think I installed the one based on the apocryphal Leroy 8 first.

I'll admit thtat I haven't tried loading either r both of them to see whether there is a visible dfference.

You know Tristan is totally one of the guys you would see playing the love interest in a Hallmark Channel movie. LOL.

Here are a couple Tristan 8 HD renders with a few props I got recently thrown in for good measure.

I don't like the purple texture of the Suave shirt, but with the denim shader, it looks OK. I substituted the BBQ pants (with denim shader) for the skin tight Suave pants. Do men wear form fitting leggings like Suave???? BBQ pants at least look like something someone could get into, other than missing a fly opening. Suave shoes seem to distort quite a bit, even after applying their pose to Tristan 8.

Socks and Kroks - Serene Night and I offered some comments and suggestions on this one over in her thread. Basically, it is pretty basic and textures are unimpressive and blow out in normal light. Here I added dForce to the shirt, because it doesn't accommodate sitting poses well at all without it. The shorts have modeled pockets, so that is a plus. The sunglasses look nice, at least from afar. (Edit: I just looked at the sunglasses close up. They have no nose pads and don't rest on Tristan's nose at all. They have very few adjustments. Use them in the distance.) I didn't try the hat. The socks have no knit texture at all that I can see, just a general bumpiness. (Edit: I zoomed way in (filled the whole render with just a sock) Then I can see a bit of a knit texture, but no ribbing at the top or anythng to hold them up.) I had to add quite a bit of gray to the base color of the shirt, socks and shoes to reduce the overwhelming blow out.

Remember, if you plan to get the Pro bundle, get it SOON, because Daz tends to only keep these offers active for male characters for three or four days. And don't forget all the freebies like I did! crying

The Suave pants are a bit like the sort of pants BetaBrand has made in the past.  If you imagine a young coder in San Francisco who bikes into work, something that marry a dress fabric with a spendex-like track pant is not uncommon here in the San Francisco Bay Area to go from bike to work station to conference room.  Granted, BetaBrand sells a onsie that looks like a business suit....

Thanks for educating me on those pants. I've never seen anything like that here in Florida. I guess I don't get around enough.

I did a quick look and found this: https://shop.lululemon.com/c/men-joggers/_/N-8rt if you want to see what they look like on real people....

I did a closeup of the Socks in Kroks fising image. You can see the floating sunglasses with no nose pads. The shirt texture looks nice at close range like this. (This still has quite a lot of gray added to tone down the blowout.)

That Crocs outfit is a huge disappointment. Will it at least take a tiling texture map from one of the Iray cloth texture kits?

Always funny how much people beg for male content and then... eh, the deal isn't THAT good, he's a LITTLE generic looking, not happy about that shirt, etc.

    Uh huh.

I think the bundle is great. I don't lobby Daz to bring in more men. I really don't buy many male characters. When I do it is BECAUSE the deal is so good.

I have spent so much lately that unless the deal is just THAT good, I'm holding off.

Anyway, it was a great Xmas surprise for those wishing for a new male base character.

Base figure was in my cart as soon as the price settled, along with all the add-ons I liked. It's a new male. Gotta have him. Unless he looks like George (Yes, I'm shallow). And we need some African figures.

I'm also laughing at the notion that Tristan is heavy or has a beer gut.

When you look at actually strong men who don't do specialized training to look ripped, they look a bit like Tristan; it's not natural to have highly defined musculature with tight skin around it.

This was one of the things that drew me to him. He certainly does not have a beer gut at all. If someone wants to see a beer gut move to my neighborhood. :p

Regardless of the deals which was appreciated for sure, I am more or less pleased with the Pro Bundle. Tristan looks great to me. Love his face proportions. And honestly, aside from the figure, I thought the hairs looked fantastic. If similar hairs exist for G3/8 men I can't find them except maybe two or three. I have nothing like them in my runtime and will get some good use out of those casual styles...far more than I ever will with the shaved side styles.

There is nothing about Tristan's body shape that bothers me or puts me off ;). Just sayin...lol Even if it did, I could fix that in about 30 seconds.

Yes, you can apply shaders just fine. The shoes even have separate surfaces for left and right and various parts of the shoe. The buttons and button threads on the shorts are separate surfaces. The only two issues I had were 1) the UV map of the shirt sleeves is rotated 90 degrees from the way real fabric for sleeves would be oriented, making the knit texture go around the sleeve instead of up and down the sleeve. 2) the lens of the sunglasses makes the applied shader pretty distorted, at least in the case of the mirrored sunglasses shader I applied.

Here is a quick test I ran with shaders applied.

Bought Tristan and the tailgating stuff and a couple of 2.99 items to benefit from the extra discount. The Pro bundle might have been better value for money when you counted up the freebies, but even so it was more money than I was prepared to spend just then. As it is, I'm slightly overbudget for the month. To me Tristan has kind of a 90s to mid-00s Kurt Russell vibe (the guy who brought you Tombstone, Breakdown and Sky High rather than the one who brought you Escape from New York and Big Trouble in Little China, or the one who brought you Bone Tomahawk and the Christmas Chronicles), but I can also see why people would compare him to Andromeda era Kevin Sorbo as well. The banner image that cuts off his chin makes him look like a jollier version of Lucian 7.

Assuming this guy corresponds to Dante 7 and Scott 6, and is the last male in the G8 line, it's interesting that in all three cases Daz closed out the character line with an "unconventionally handsome manly-man type."

First quick test of Tristan with translucency lowered and default HDRI with shirt from BBQ outfit with a shader (but it still looks like paper) and Lennie Hair which I was disappointed to find has no real styling morphs. He looks like a dad or lead in a sitcom to me. Nice guy, but of course he's smiling here. With different hair and expression, maybe he could look more sinister....

Actually he DOES work well as a bad guy. Default translucency, 100% Tristan face, but not his body...

I tried to install Tristan 8 Pro bundle and his HD Add-On with Daz Connect. 5 of the products are not installed correctly and cannot be used. The asset icons are framed exclamation marks and trying to load a file causes an error message. I have submitted a help request. (I already tried doing what CS always says to do: uninstall, delete the remaining files/folders, update metadata and install again.) It didn't help at all.

    The bad product packages are:
    Tristan 8 HD Add-On
    Socks in Krokz Outfit
    Smart and Suave Outfit
    dForce Backyard BBQ Outfit
    Lennie Hair

I'm curious whether these work for any other customers who use Daz Connect, or if it is one of those things like the $2.99 sale that work for some people but not other people.

The issue is the files aren't decrypting when installing.  My workaround is to download the DIM installer and manually copy the files into the product's folder in My Daz Connect Library\data\cloud.  A re-start of DS is necessary if the copying was done and DS was open.

Just as a test, I did did report a group of products not behaving installed via DAZ Connect for a recent Pro Bundle.  Waited to hear back from CS,  followed instructions to uninstall, re-installed and it still wasn't fixed.  Got fed up with that process and now always do my work-around to fix the DAZ Connect install.  It hasn't failed me yet.

Playing with a bunch of morphs in an attempt to make him a bit more handsome... I think he ended looking like a Swedish ski instructor lol!

Somebody does have a doppelgänger in the DAZ Store, I think it was a character that had George 8 as a requirement but wasn't George 8, from the forums but I forgot his name. It was funny, he showed a picture of himself and a picture of the DAZ product and they looked identical except the picture looking like a real picture. I've not seen my efforts or anybody else's FaceGen, Head Shop, or Frans Transfer attempts get nearly so close.

The doppelgänger was Leopold and I remember the guy looked exactly like him.  I'm surprised he didn't use him for his avatar.

I grabbed him too! First time in a while I could afford to do it. Was thrilled to also pick up Elios 8. My cart runneth over with handsome digital Kens. Wooohoo!

  • I have been working to learn some of the ins and outs of making my own characters, here are some of the heads, still need to work on the bodies, as well as go through to get the files correct to hopefully submit somewhere to be my first product.  These are currently the G8 male version.  I have been contemplating if I should try to take it down to each of the previous Genesis itenerations as well in the same pack.  So that if someone who used G3 or G2 males more they could also look at the purchase, and would include the G8 (any any other versions) already so that they could eventually move up and would already have a favorite character, hopefully.

I like them, Patrick!  I'd definitely grab them for G8M, even without bodies. If G3M was included, it would be even better. But i wouldn't get a separate pack. Nor would any earlier generations make a difference to me.
