can anybody explain to me what Minecraft is about and why everybody is so exited about it? I've seen it only once and it looked to me like a 1995 ego shooter without any enymies. Even my Turok game on my old Nintendo64 looked better.

It's game where you survive by making things out of the resources you collect. You need to avoid starvation, as well as getting killed by various monsters and hazards. The graphics are fine, I think, I like the lego like world it has, and graphics are not what makes a game, you know.

Plus you can do all sorts of mods as well. :D

Yep, the LEGO look really turns me off on it. I have to have a believable looking world to play in.

Man, I LOVED Turok on Nintendo 64 back in the day, wish would make a new version with current render tech and for the PC.

I'm a massive Minecraft fan, so naturally I've been playing around with some Minecraft-related goodies in Daz Studio. There's an exporter which will allow you to convert Minecraft maps into 3D models which might be worth taking a look at. In the meantime, here's Sadie being hassled by a creeper, and a close up of the creeper himself.

Realistic worlds in video games are overrated. ;)

I'd love some Minecraft worlds one could open in Daz. :D Same for the characters.

Our kids play Minecraft, but I can't get into it no matter what. Because of them though I know how to mod it even though I don't play it (I don't like them messing with system files so they come ask me to install certain mods).

There's been one since 2008. It's built on Unreal Engine 3. It came out on Xbox360, PS3, and Windows.

They're actually very easy to make, since you can export Minecraft worlds as OBJ files and then import them into Daz Studio. All the texturing is done for you, so all you need to do is apply opacity maps or other material tweaks. Perhaps give glowstone more of an actual glow, for example. That is precisely what I did for the above image. It's an exported file of a building I made in creative-mode Minecraft, and its surrounding area.

As for the creeper, it was fairly easy to model but it isn't rigged, so the feet don't actually move. Due to the mesh, attempts to rig it were met with interesting complications, largely where it deformed non-moving parts. This particular creeper I modelled and mapped in 3D Studio Max. It's extremely low poly though, so doesn't really lend itself well to bending morphs.

If you're interested, I could upload the figure for you to use, though I might redo it entirely with a higher polycount to make it a bit more flexible in future.

Saying the graphics hold this game back from being relevant is like saying music should be played faster so it sounds better.

My son is big on Minecraft and has it for the computer and the xbox. You can export the world's for use in Daz????? Time to have a talk with my son...lol

My son is always asking me to help him out with some animations involving minecraft. I did find some character models, but that's about it, so this exporting thing will really help.

Minecraft! Well... I've done a couple of video's about exporting the worlds for rendering.

And here is a couple of renders. Of course I've done a few. Just I have made a few videos... http://www.youtube.com/user/davidbrinnen You might find something to interest you here if you use Bryce or Wings 3D or Octane or Minecraft - or maybe soon... even... DS!

Hey David...Agent keeps trying to get us to use Bryce and has suggested your video's many times. I am not so sure I want to export an entire world from Minecraft, that woujld be rather large, can you select a section of the world and export only that?

You can indeed export as little or as much as you like (within the limitations of your PC). The video will guide you.

Yes, please ^_^ And low poly is just fine with me. :D

Its the open-ended LEGO gameplay that has people hooked. The possibilities are absolutely endless. You can even build "circuits" and program them to function as a computer. The simple texture editors and what can be achieved by a 16x16 pixel resolution image is astounding - making an cool image is such a fun a challenge it is a game in itself!

My 8yo was playing with MineCraft TnT detonation circuits late into the night Saturday giggling as he blew up virtual farm animals. I think I may have a problem on my hands....

Time to take him gold prospecting and focus that energy where it may do us good.

the bulk of what I've seen is scattered throughout the Blender community.

If I upgrade to Xbox1 or PS4 it will be for Minecraft...
    ...and MK10

From what I understand, they're (Whatever "they" is) highly programmable. Its about what they DO not how they look.

true you will never understand the how over rated Paco DeLucia was until you behold the sonic significance of Rimsky-Korsakov's "Flight of the BumbleBee" noodled through at 250BP/m intervals to garner the elusive youtube accolade: Greatest Guitar Player EVAR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This thread is cold but I'm glad it's still here. I'm looking to do blockworld scenes, this is great that MC exports OBJ, I guess I will try that.

@FSMCDesigns you should check out Survivalcraft if you want a more realistic environment. But it's just an app, no export to obj. I prefer it, while my kids prefer the nostalgic 64bit look of Minecraft's blocky clouds. I can't stand 'em. Generational thing I guess.

@HeraldOfFire - thanks, those pics look awesome.

So I will try now to create "Steve" in DAZ...

Not sure if it has been mentioned, but was there a plugin for studio that created same effect for studio?

Can't remember who but I think there was something for Daz by Digital something or other, but don't think it was a script, think it was an environment, but it's been too long for me to remember correctly
